Description
Yep, I'm telling everyone how I made the wolves in Wolf Mates II - haha, maybe I shouldn't... but I'm going to, anyways. It's shockingly simple - anyone can do it!Hope it makes sense, and that it's useful... and that I'll get to see lots of furry things in the near future

Omigosh, this is sooo helpful. I've been looking around for tutorials by artists who rock at making fur like you do.

IΒ΄m not sure I can do this, but IΒ΄ll try Um... Do you think this will work too if you just paint over a picture of someone? ItΒ΄s because I have to make one of my classmates look like a werewolf - Well, I just try to draw fur on his face, thatΒ΄s all... But itΒ΄s so hard

jocarra In reply to TheFailedDream [2010-04-17 21:16:19 +0000 UTC]
*chuckles* Ahhh, I see! I'm sure that could work :3 Especially if you set your brush setting to multiply or screen, so it sort of retains shading information about his skin and lighting whatnot.

Oh, thatΒ΄s a great idea! Now I just kinda have to figure out to do the setting... I donΒ΄t know pretty much about the program :s

Try making a new layer over the photo, and setting it to multiply for the darker hairs, and screen for the lighter ones.

I have a question about this tutorial, if i may:
What size is the wolf actually being painted at in this? I ask because it give no real indication as to how big the suggested brushes actually are, relative to the critter...

jocarra In reply to Mulletmanalive [2010-02-27 23:05:31 +0000 UTC]
It was being painted at the size you see up at the top

Mulletmanalive In reply to jocarra [2010-02-27 23:38:55 +0000 UTC]
So about 200 pixels across, yes? That's a lot of detail for something so small.

Hehe, thanks a lot, and you're welcome!
And yes, I still use tons of scribbling for my fur There's sort of an art to it X3

For fun? Since I could hold a pencil (1986ish)
More seriously? (ie. trying to actually draw WELL) Since 1997ish.
"Professionally?" Since 2003ish.

*nods* A graphics tablet always helps, but the good thing about this tutorial is it can be done with just the mouse, too
Nice work Were you using a reference? Those always help a lot, and are great for practice and for serious work!

Stoats-and-Badgers In reply to jocarra [2009-11-25 20:29:36 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I might think about buying a mouse too whilst looking for tablets lol
To be honest, I wasn't using a ref ... I will when I try it again though ... Thanks though
