Description
This tutorial covers my basic process from sketch to final product, and how I do textures in graphite. This was a tough tutorial to make - I can see why there isn't a "traditional" section for tutorials. Hope it's somewhat useful.Related content

Thanks a lot for this tutorial, I kept looking at your drawings thinking, "Wow, will i be able to really do something like this one day..." kinda doubting, but It's as you said, Practice and Patience.
Again, thanks a lot for your wonderful tutorial!

Thank you very much for this tutorial ^^ i have recently tried drawing a snow leopard cub, but i had no idea how to add the texture to the fur. Time to grab a couple supplies, and now that i have a basic concept to go on think my next animal drawing will turn out much better ^^

The tutorial -should- show up, I'm not sure why it's not working for you. If you can't see it in full view or by downloading the image, I'm not sure what to suggest :b

One question: how do you avoid smudging the bottom right hand corner of the drawing with your hand all the time?!?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
jocarra In reply to Biddlesby [2010-07-07 19:58:09 +0000 UTC]
I avoid smudging by...
- being very very careful
- trying to work from one side of the picture to another, so I don't have to worry about smudging
- using fixative on finished areas to avoid smudging, although I like to wait until the very end to spray any fixative
- using a piece of paper or something and putting it over top of my drawing and underneath my hand, so my hand doesn't smudge it
Mostly, though, I do the top two: just be careful, and try to work mostly from left to right, top to bottom.

hello, GREAT TUTORIAL! very helpful!! and if i dont have a kneadable eraser (did have one but its not kneadable anymore
) is there a substitue for it? or am i out of luck??
well, thanks again for the tutorial, ill use what I can from it.

jocarra In reply to AwesomeTheAmazing [2010-01-30 00:56:58 +0000 UTC]
Mmm, a decent substitute for a kneadable eraser would maybe be a thin, wide sliver of a regular white eraser. It'll let you do the fine detail work that a kneadable does. Nothing quite substitutes the way it can "lift" pencil, though, although you can sorta try with other erasers - don't rub, just press firmly into the paper and lift, sometimes the eraser will be able to pick up the colour. However, also be careful, because white erasers tend to get "gunk" on it that can transfer when you press/rub it, which can wreck your picture =/

Okay, I see what you mean that regular erasers leave pieces. Ill try it with a piece of eraser, tell you how that goes. HEY!! I could maybe even try sticky tack? Let you know how that works too.
