Description You guys kept asking for it, so here it is!

Though maybe not what you were asking for.

Anyhow, I was drawing Maiden Flash and was going to make a video recording of the whole process with commentaries and stuff. But then it was too slow, and I gave up on it and instead shot the screen like 50 times during production - maybe for the better, since it took all day. AND I missed submitting it on Leap Day by like 3 hours. So tiiired....

Sorry if it's super rushed and vague and confusing - that's kind of how everything is on the internet.

Made in not-Flash

Flash © Adobe

EDIT: Oh yeah, super important - I use the paint brush tool, not the pencil/pen to draw. It's set at 50 smoothing, and I use the second smallest brush size for the line art. Plus, I'm using a tablet that allows me to control the stroke width using pressure sensitivity (you have to turn it on from the bottom of the tool bar).

but anyways awesome tutorial

JohnSu In reply to zachblack [2009-07-01 19:48:18 +0000 UTC]

you use the lasso to "cut out" a shape, and then fill it in with the bucket tool

This has made me realize how much nicer it is to draw stuff with flash instead of photoshop. (mainly because of the smoothing on the paintbrush) So how come you have so many keyframes on each layer if there is not going to be any animation?

Drop-of-Flame In reply to Drop-of-Flame [2009-02-20 23:05:55 +0000 UTC]

I just read your answer to a comment with the same question, so don't worry about that one. I've got another question though .

Is there a way to cut a part of a layer or a group from one layer and paste it into a different layer? Every time I try pasting into a different layer, it keeps going back into it's original layer.

Nyubis In reply to Drop-of-Flame [2010-04-15 14:47:48 +0000 UTC]

Try selecting, right-clicking and choose "distribute to layers". Or just make sure to exit your group before pasting (under the timeline should be the path).

*looks at date*
Well you'll probably have it figured yourself by now...

JohnSu In reply to Drop-of-Flame [2009-02-20 23:00:32 +0000 UTC]

Each key frame is a different picture. It cuts down on the number of files I have.

Good Tutorial!!, I have try to paint in flash.
But i Have a question..When you export to a image...Does it has a good quality?, or Can i copy to Potoshop or something like that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JohnSu In reply to imaGeac [2008-11-02 01:16:57 +0000 UTC]

It has excellent quality depending on the file format you use (bmp, png, or any lossless format will be fine).

I think so. Not much has changed since then except for action scripting and maybe some motion tweening.

This is the best flash drawing tutorial I've seen. You even give the smoothing number for the brush, alot of people forget that which is where I usually get lost.
