Description You guys kept asking for it, so here it is!

Though maybe not what you were asking for.

Anyhow, I was drawing Maiden Flash and was going to make a video recording of the whole process with commentaries and stuff. But then it was too slow, and I gave up on it and instead shot the screen like 50 times during production - maybe for the better, since it took all day. AND I missed submitting it on Leap Day by like 3 hours. So tiiired....

Sorry if it's super rushed and vague and confusing - that's kind of how everything is on the internet.

Made in not-Flash

Flash © Adobe

EDIT: Oh yeah, super important - I use the paint brush tool, not the pencil/pen to draw. It's set at 50 smoothing, and I use the second smallest brush size for the line art. Plus, I'm using a tablet that allows me to control the stroke width using pressure sensitivity (you have to turn it on from the bottom of the tool bar).

nice tutorial! i have a question. is there a way to get rid of the low-quality blurbs on the pic due to the resizing? Full zoom doesn't get those things, but the initial view does. here's an example: [link]

Thanks!

Oh, those? I'm not sure, but I think it's a jpeg thing. I like to use pngs.

Nice. I'll keep this for the day I get Flash again, and for ever after.

And of course, you keep your humor intact the whole time. 'Twas a pleasure learning from you, flamboyantweasel411.

Wait a minute . . . I thought your real name was Mousecliks!

Thank you so much, that was amazingly helpful!

Wow, grouping layers! That is such a good idea...I wish I had known about it earlier. Is that the same thing as putting them in a folder? If not, how is it different?

Also, how do you make a sketch layer? Man, I really need one of those. O.o
(Sorry for the questions XP)

JohnSu In reply to bladesfire [2008-03-02 23:30:02 +0000 UTC]

nono, you can't form groups across layers. And it's not the same as putting them in folders, since folders just change the appearance of the timeline. Groups let you manipulate everything in them at once.

You can make a sketch (guide) layer by right clicking on the layer and selecting "Guide."

Oooh, fancy.

Wow, that's easy. So easy in fact I just did it. Dang, you have no idea how much that helps.
That's the second time you've saved me this year with flash tips. Thanks, you rock!

groups are more like sub layers put directly on to the layer itself.

2. I wish I had Flash.
3. I wish I had the talent and knowhow to actually be able to use both successfully and not look like a hack.
4. I shall stick to photography, I think.

Why use 50 for smoothing? That leaves little gaps when using the brush. I find 40 easier.. ;A;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JohnSu In reply to Penb0y [2008-03-02 01:25:06 +0000 UTC]

I like 50 as a balance between aesthetics, memory usage, and accuracy.
