Great tutorial. It's nice to see someone put more in-depth explanations on what they're doing. I always like seeing how different artists use different techniques. The only issue for me (in this particular painting) is that I feel like the final version has too much contrast. It looks less "real" than the previous steps to me. Still a brilliant job by any standards.

thanks for this tutorial! I wanted to draw digital art since IΒ΄ve seen one for the first time !
But my problem so far, that I don`t knowed how.
And one question, are you using a tablet?
I have corel PHOTO-paint X4 can I get a result like this with it too?

I'm not the artist who did this, but I think I can answer your question nonetheless : you just can't do this without a tablet. Digital art requires a tablet, you're going to get crazy trying to do this with a mouse As for Corel Paint, I don't use it, so I don't know if you can get similar results. Good luck with your first steps in digital art !

Just wondering could this be done as effectively in Photoshop Elements 8 or should I invest in CS4?

I love how just a bit (more like a lot) of colour and shading can make a flat drawing look amazing! I think i'll try this out for definate. I've been doing digital art for years and i still can't find a shading style i'm happy with. It's just unfortunate i don't have time these days.

Great tutorial! It's really helpful, mainly because it's so huge and shows a lot of details.
Umm... I have a question. I want to buy I drawing table, but - since this is my first one - I don't know which one to buy. Do you have some tips?

i really love the details you put into the tutorial most of the time you simply get 6 pictures with no explanation of whats happening. the smaller pictures showing the progress of each step is also very nice. but i think whats most important is that you included the time frame in which each step was done trying new techniques can be very taxing on people because they feel that it can be done in moments rather than hours.

Go to the Layer options in Photoshop, and there will be an option to merge layers. Ctrl+E is the shortcut for merging layers as well, if there are two layers you want to merge, click on the one that is above the other layer and hit Ctrl+E.
Hope that helped!
