Honestly I liked Xen. It was colorful and surreal as fuck. Plus it had lots of crazy designed creatures and plants. I just pray I get to see it all as detailed as Halflife2.

Here's something I've found amazingly fun to do: I had to buy another version of HL after my old one walked off (Never let friends borrow computer games). Turns out if you put in another cd while the game plays... let's say a Spindoctor's album... it will replace the level music with the appropriate track number. Nothing quite like fighting headcrabs or that giant fish thingy with "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" playing in the background. = )

Part6 is totally the most memorable part xD Especially since it comes right after the giant-golem-with-fire-penis-hands-that-the-army-rigged-with-dynamite-that-sadly-don't-explode-because-you've-cut-the-wires-of-the-detonator-and-then-you-realise-that-was-the-biggest-mistake-you-did...
... that and working your ass out to keep alive every NPC allies you make and always having to leave them behind to a particularly gruesome death (such as a napalm strike to the face) because they're too stupid to climb, jump or crawl T_T

Well, the Black Mesa mod intends to make Xen not suck as much, although I personally didn't find it disappointing. I just think they could have made it a little harder to get lost in some places. Everything just had that sort of sickly brown and purple color to it.

The original Half-Life is still worth it.
Why you may ask? For the two expansion packs: Opposing Force and Blue Shift. With Opposing Force you play as one of the HECU soldiers sent to silence the Facility. And with Blue Shift, You play as the lovable security guard from Black Mesa: Barney Calhoun.

When I first played, there was no internet in Alabama, so I had no idea what Xen would be like, and nothing was spoiled. I was imagining a heavily forested, jungle-like planet, interspersed with fantastic, colossal alien cities like I'd just finished seeing in MDK2 (another game you MUST play, if you haven't).
And then I saw it, and so I got some internets, installed a patch that made me invisible to enemies, and burned through Xen in about half an hour.

Tsk, everyone knows your meant use up all your pistol ammo on ichyosaurs (uh wait wrong thing... nevermind) before using the bolt pooty device. After using that then it should be dead. Then proceed to crowbar the other one that had been bighting your bits for the last 5 minutes.
I can't remeber Xen that well, I think my mind blocked it out and substituted it for more swearing marines, man those guys had great a.i.
