Well, the first time I tried this concept was actually more of a quickie doodle...but I loved the idea so much I wanted to really spend time on a better piece.This is more of the original idea I had for the scene as well, thought it was sweeter.
My main lament about this, is the coloring. I blew a ton of cash on a coloring set, thinking I'd learn how to color, well seems I really need to. I'm really wishing I took a photocopy first and didn't just spoil what was quite possibly my favorite sketch...could've retried the coloring and done better too that way, live 'n learn.
Well, this is the first thing I've drawn in 2007 so woo-hoo for that
And I'd like to make a littl' shout to bringonthethunder, as her art has been a constant inspiration for my improving the way I draw Sally, and this is probably the closest I'm gonna come to doing as good a job as her (on my own accord, without outright trying to copy one of her pics) for a long time

The funny thing is though, when you put alot of effort into a pic and it even comes out looking very good, you improve faster, so perhaps it will not take as long as you think until you make something like this again

Wonderful job on her hair, you managed to take away that "woody" look from it that it have had on your previous ones. This time is really looks soft and BOTT-ish ^^

I knew there was a reply around here somewhere I couldn't type a response to when I first saw it...sorry for being so late.
I dunno...that suprised the hell outta me when I did that Sally. Completely freehand off the top of my head (except the ear, I really wanted that ear so I had to check exactly how BOTT did it -.- ). I don't doubt I could do something of similar quality if I purposely tried to and studied her art beforehand, like I just did with the Chad piece. But I feel it was a stroke of luck I managed to do something that good at random. Haven't made a sketch of her since then that could even lay a finger on this in my books.

Tell 'ya the truth, it was inspired by BOTT's "The Simple Life". I thought this sorta looked like the aftermath of that pic, they rolled out on the grass and fell asleep at the foot of the stump. And since she had Sonic handing Sally a flower, I decided what the hell, that'd be a nice thing to put there behind her ear.
Also very glad you noticed and liked the hair. I know exactly what pic you're refering too, that was awful wasn't it?
Yeah, I'll never try to put that many lines in again...the key is to not overdo it, and to make the curls and such believable. Not easy to BS off the top of your head, dunno how Rachael does such an awesome job with it all the time

This is really quite pretty. The scene itself is just wonderful, oh it makes me wanna write a little story about it! I can feel my fingertips just itching to fly over my keyboard. The coloring isn't horrable, it's not even bad. Overall it's a very nice piece. Good job.

Pshaw, no need to comfort me on the coloring...at least I stayed in the lines I guess
I need to go slower with uniform strokes and make sure I fully fill in with color. I just sorta scribbled here and it shows to me, painfully.

It was sort of a quick add-in, and I thought it'd be easier to sketch without making any actual changes to the pic on that ear. But yer right, could look better over there...

Yup, as I said, that'll probably be my best Sally for a while now. That's what I dislike about my art right now, I have no consistant style. It'll look one way one day, and completely different the next time I make a doodle. But this concentrated effort on Sally certainly payed off for me, thanks

You are right, it is the eyes. And the mouth area could be smaller as you said. I originally made it sorta large and oblong like that because I was gonna make him yawn...or something like that. But that idea got scratched and since I had already drawn around it, it sorta got left as being akwardly big.
Thanks for the tip! Makes sense, I get used to drawing things at one angle a lot I think, so that'd help me fix some things. I'll be sure to try that out

Ah don't worry - I don't have a consistent style either, though I have tried and tried to find it. But here's the good news - even if you can't settle on a consistent style, you will probably improve. I've been trying to find my "perfect style" for both Sally and Sonic, and I now realize that all I can do is keep improving - and I'll tell ya, the current sketch of Sally I have in the works makes me go "OMG did I draw that?!?!"

You kidding? I love your style! I specifically envy you for having consistancy! But you're right, it's all part of improving, eventually when I feel more comfortable with the characters I'll take on a style that seems natural to me (at least the kacamami theory I got

Oh I'm sure doing my best to be, and I'll agree that I'm ever-improving and only gettin' better with time (*ahem* momentary lapse of humility). But as far as I'm concerned, you're already a most excellent artist, and I can't help but idolize the work you do. Really, examining your stuff has taught me a ton. I mimicked a lot of what I observed from you in this drawing, that's why I felt the shout was necessary. When I look at that sweet Sally face, I immediately think of a number of your pieces.
And I can't help but give into my overly-benevelant nature and praise you up and down every chance I get
You just be sure to give me a slap on the wrist if I take that too far okay? I know I can get carried away a little at times
