I was at the Laramie Ranch, East of Fuchsia City on a well-deserved weekend break. The sun was already making me sweat, but the air had a sweet smell of earth and wildflowers.

The Laramie family had specialised in breeding Normal-type Pokemon for generations and had begun inviting guests to come and learn about how the ranch works. I was greeted by Lara, the owner of the ranch and she let me to one of their paddocks. Ahead of us was a large Tauros. It sniffed and snorted at the ground as its enormous muscles rippled as it walked. Its greyish horns glistened like metal in the sunlight and its trio of its tails whipped at the flies landing on its back.

“This is Rutt, one of our alpha bulls here at the ranch. He’s rather young to be an alpha, he hasn’t even got any battle scars yet, but he sure knows how to push the boys in the herd around, that's for sure” Lara explained.

We leaned on the hot metal fence as she opened a fabric sack full of oats. He immediately smelt them and made his way over to us, snuffling in our direction. Holding our hand flat he quickly ate the dry oats and even let me pet him on the head. The three ‘micro horns’ on its forehead shimmered in the sunlight. It's still speculated as to their purpose, but I believe it’s a way for them to identify each other as they all are slightly unique. Young bulls tend to have much shiner horns, becoming more matte the older they get.

Lara explained that generally Tauros are seen as wild and aggressive Pokemon, but if you get them alone they calm right down and can even be rather gentle. In fact, they ship a lot of their Tauros south to the Alolan Islands where they are trained to be ridden.
