Description
Edit: Eyes tutorial, featuring this same character, is up: [link]A sister tutorial to the last Cleaning up Lines Tutorial [link] I really appreciated the feedback that I got, so thank all of you, and I'm glad it was helpful to some.
A lot of people mentioned that it's hard for them to sketch cleanly, so the last tutorial didn't really apply. I have the same problem, and it takes a looooot of extra work on paper (erase, erase, draw, erase) to get pencil lines clean enough to start coloring off of. So.... that's why I often turn to Digital Inking!
Here are some of the ways that I do Digital Inking. I know the "trace directly over the original image" is probably the most common method, but it's hard to do without a tablet and also hard for people with unsteady hands, so that's why I talked a bit about other methods.
As usual, comments/feedback appreciated so I can incorporate them into future projects. Thanks and

this was kinda helpful but i make it kinda diferent...
did u unlock the background layer? cus when i unlock it and make a new one which i call the sketch layer. when i'm about to clean it with brightness and contrats it says: "could not complete brightness/contrasts command because the active layer is empty" i don't get it! this is confusing!!

Wait since you use Photoshop, what kind of brush do you use for Lineart?
Like, square, basic, ?
Also, what version of Photoshop do you have?

Sorry for this dumb sounding question (to me at least) but does Photoshop Elements 6.0 not have the Pen Tool? That seems like it would be the easiest method for me (my hand shakes whenever I try to do lineart and it looks really crappy) and I was wondering if you might know. Or if you knew of a tool that might replicate the effects of the Pen Tool.
-Thanks

Sorry for intruding, but the earliest version of Photoshop that I've seen with the pen tool would be Photoshop 7. I don't personally know of a tool with the same effects as the pen tool in Photoshop (I have an early version myself). But you can download Gimp for free and it has a tool called the 'aths tool' which I should think is the same thing. Gimp even exports into file formats that Photoshop can open. C: Hope this helps.

Well see the thing is, I'm not in just regular Photoshop. I don't know if there's a difference or not, but I use Photoshop Elements 6.0 with my blue wacom tablet.

Oh, I've been on that before. I didn't see a pentool on there either. If it's on there it would be with the same icon as the one you see in the tutorial.

o.o I have been hunting for a good pen/lineart tutorial .... since I started digital art. So going on a year now. And NONE have explained the pen tool, usually just mentioning it. Thank you so much! I am really looking forward to trying out these tools.
I think I might also hunt for your colour tutorial. ^^

Umm, I have just two questions (I'm a noob for photoshop ):
Why I can't select "Stroke Path" after drawing a curve in Photoshop? I did as you told, right-clicked on the path and tried to select "Stroke path", but it is grey, so I can't click on it.
And why are all curves' areas filled with colour?
Please help me.

The...the pen tool does that...? ...Seriously? ... I've been cursing at Photoshop for about 3 years now for not having such a logical option that would allow me to make unshaky lines like so many other programs have...and all this time it was there? As in right there in front of my nose?? *cries softly*
Thank you for sharing, I instantly opened up PS and went wild, it's like 3-year-old dream coming true at last!!
(...I also feel like a incredibly stupid fool for never having figured this out when it's so obvious, lmao!! Oh man, if I hadn't accidentally stumbled across this while looking for something else entirely, who knows how much more time would have passed before I learned this! It was right there! *facepalm*)
