Description
Thanks for featuring this tutorial! It's a great honor---
Learn how to create a Flash game, step by step! Every line of code is explained so when this tutorial is over you've got the knowledge to create a complete game.
Please note that I always recommend buying a book for full instructions on Flash - this is merely a good start.

That's alright ^^ I understand everyone see's things
differently and I think tutorials are just one of those
things that can easily be taken different ways by
different people.

I'm glad and surprised that you took the time to read through my long comment on this deviation. I hope it did not seem like I was asking to have the Deily Deviation status removed, my intention was to leave this comment here to inform people who might learn from it.
The main problem I see in it is that it teaches a few bad practises that beginners will carry on with them and might have a difficult time changing in the future, when they intend to take a step further and try to working on real games.
This tutorial still has a good visual design, easy explanations and the game it teaches you to make works correctly. By that alone, it is still worthy of the exposure it has gained.

Oh no, you didn't across like that at all. Ahh, I see what you mean. That will be my fault, as I said earlier I'm not an expert programmer myself so I had picked this DD on other qualities. I really appreciate what you have said and I have taken note to be more wary of future tutorials that I think are worthy of a DD and I think the artist himself would appreciate your feedback aswell.

Holy keyframe O:
This is just what I needed!
Searched for a tutorial like this for months!
Even my Flash teacher couldnยดt tell me a good tutorial!!!
I seriously need to create a little game like this, because I want to apply
at a university for game design! A little finished game in your application file
is worth a fortune!
Thank you so much, gonna try it when I find some time!
Maybe you could even tell me other tuts, for other genres?
An easy jump ยดn run or such? Or general tips?
Oh gosh Iยดm begging you, please! C:
Oh, anyway, I love the way you designed the tutorial! :3
Looks really professional. I love the option to switch between the chaptes,
enabling sound and even play the finished game! :3

By pressing CTRL + ENTER the FLA file will compile an SWF file in the same directory.

I made this with your help [link]
The part on the game frame got a little confusing at the last part, since it suddenly appeared outta nowhere. Also maybe you could have taught us on how to make a replay button? But other than that, this is a really good tutorial. Thank you

well...you did say "Please note that I always recommend buying a book for full instructions on Flash - this is merely a good start". can you cite at least one?

KenneyWings In reply to Aellostriker2 [2011-11-12 15:20:20 +0000 UTC]
Just look for any Flash book in stores or your local library. The problem with these tutorials is that you'll never learn everything from A to Z about Flash in general. Books give you a much broader knowledge.

Nice !
This tutorial's content is great (even if didn't learned anything), but what I really love is the way you presented it.
Programming tutorial tend to by dry by nature (well... it's code), and this way to do is remove a great part of the "boring factor".
I find this way even better than video demo/tutorial, because the explanation isn't vague or rushed, as it often happens in videos, and you can really do the tutorial at your own pace, rereading part you haven't understand, or skipping parts you already know.
It nearly gave me the drive to make the AS3 version of the tutorial.
In three words : A Great Job.

This is amazing. If you could do something like this for a basic RPG game, I'd have to considder building one from the ground up instead of using RMXP
