Chapter 3: A Map to Destiny
Mayor Victor noticed the commotion. He then noticed the spy. “Let him in.” he said to the bodyguards. Both of them then walked inside.
“What was that all about?” Siss asked. Envy shrugged in response. Just then, the same teens from yesterday showed up, but this time with their parents.
“That’s her, alright!” One of the teens said.
“She’s the crazy one that tried to incinerate us!” Another teen said. Meanwhile at the city hall, Mayor Victor and the spy were negotiating about the illagers’ plan to annihilate their village.
“I’m telling you, sir! This is a map that could lead to something dangerous!” the spy cried.
“But what could it be?” Mayor Victor asked. “What kind of dangerous object could be hidden in there?”
“I don’t know, Mayor Victor.” the spy said. “I’m not an expert with this kind of stuff. Maybe we can find someone who knows about this crazy stuff.”
“You’re right.” Mayor Victor said. “Maybe we do need someone that knows what this leads to. What we need is an archeologist. What we need is a mythologist. What we need…” Just then, Mayor Victor heard people yelling on the street. He looked out the window and noticed that there was a riot happening outside. He then turned his attention to Envy, Bonnie, Sombra, Siss, and Ivan getting bullied by the angry mob. That’s when he thought of an idea. “What we may need...is a person who knows magic. And I think I may know who…” Turning back to the riot going on, things were getting very nasty.
“How dare you try to harm an innocent child!” a villager shouted. The entire mob yelled right after.
“But those jerks tried to hurt us!” Siss shouted.
“Yeah, they threatened to turn me into bone meal!” Bonnie added on.
“Shut your bone trap!” another villager shouted. The mob continued shouting.
“Everyone, please listen to me!” Envy shouted. “I wasn’t trying to use my magic to harm those teens, I was just using it to scare them off. It was self defense!”
“Liar!” one of the teens shouted. “You tried to burn us with your weird, purple fire! Why don’t you and your gang go back to your cave, or God knows wherever you came from!” Another one of the teens walked up to Envy and kicked her leg, causing her to fall to her knees.
“Yeah, you no longer belong in this village, monsters!” a few of the villagers said.
“Let’s kick them out!” a villager shouted.
“Let’s punish them!” another villager shouted.
“Let’s kill them!” Another villager shouted. The entire mob yelled once more.
“People!” Ivan shouted. “Look, I know that all of you don’t want us here, but please hear me out. I don’t know what I did to make y’all not like me, but I’m telling you, I never wanted to scare all of you with my magic. I’m just a humble man who loves everyone in this village.”
“Oh really? You’re always the crazy guy who loves to practice his little magic tricks!” A villager shouted. “Do you think people care about your magic? No, you dumbass!”
“Besides, why would you spend your life raising this beast!?” Another villager shouted as they pointed at Envy.
“Hey, I’m not a beast!” Envy yelled, angrily. She then accidentally burped. Envy covered her mouth in embarrassment. “Excuse me.”
“Look, I don’t care what you all think!” Ivan yelled. “When I found Envy as a child, she was all by herself. Her parents were nowhere to be found. I couldn’t just leave her there. So I made her my daughter. A few days later, we found this strange device out in one of the chorus fruit forests. It was made out of a metal I’ve never seen before. There were 6 pillars surrounding a ring that looked like a portal. Each of the pillars had a crystal on top. Next to the portal was a computer of some kind. I had no idea what it was, so I-”
“Enough, wizard!” a villager yelled as he punched Ivan in the face and made him fall in the mud, leaving him with a black eye.
“Ivan!” Envy shouted as the mob started yelling again. “Are you ok?” she asked.
“Yeah. Ow!” Ivan answered in pain. Just then, the commotion was interrupted by Mayor Victor letting off a siren on a megaphone. Two bodyguards were standing in between him. The siren stopped as soon as everyone went silent. There was a short pause, and then Mayor Victor started speaking through the megaphone.
“I would like to speak to Mr. Endgore, please.” Mayor Victor said.
“Ow…right here.” Ivan said as he raised his hand.
“We are currently going through some photographic evidence that we don’t understand. Your assistance may be needed.” Mayor Victor said, still talking through the megaphone. “Meet me in my office at city hall. Bring your monster friends too.” Then he walked away. Later during the day, Ivan and the girls went to the city hall, just like Mayor Victor said. They stepped in and walked to the front desk, which was in a room made of quartz.
“Can I help you?” the lady sitting at the desk asked.
“We’re here to see Mayor Victor.” Ivan said.
“Right away.” the lady said. She then pressed a button on her desk phone and said, “Mayor Victor, they’re here to see you.” A few minutes later, the group stepped into Mayor Victor’s office.
“Good morning, Mr. Endgore.” Mayor Victor said. "How's your eye?"
"It still feels a bit sore," Ivan said, "But thank you for asking."
“I’ve heard so much about you.” Mayor Victor said.
“Have you, sir?” Ivan said.
“This must be the dragon creature that I heard you raised.” Mayor Victor said as he saw Envy. “She looks absolutely lovely.”
“Aww! Thank you.” Envy said as she blushed.
“Mayor Victor, this is Envy.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Envy. Also, who are your friends?” Mayor Victor asked.
“Oh, this is Bonnie, Siss, and Sombra. We just met.” Envy answered.
“Wonderful!” Mayor Victor said. “Come, have a seat.” Envy, Ivan, and Siss each sat in a chair. Sombra and Bonnie stayed standing up. Mayor Victor sat at his desk in front of them.
“So, Mayor. Why do you need me again?” Ivan asked.
“Ah, yes.” Mayor Victor said as he turned on a nearby projector with a remote. A series of images on a projector screen that was lowered behind him. Mayor Victor then stood up and stepped to the side of the screen. “Last night, one of our spies was sent to scout out the Illagers’ imperial base.” he explained as he flipped through the images. “In one of the rooms, Lord Drax was found talking to a strange hologram while looking at this map. '' Mayor Victor then zoomed in on the mysterious map.
“Whoa!” Envy said in curiosity. At the same time, Bonnie’s jaw literally dropped when she saw the map.
“Where does that map lead to?” Sombra asked.
“We’re not sure.” Mayor Victor explained. “However, we believe it leads to something deadly. We are not sure what that thing is, nor the location this is at, which is why you’re here, Ivan. What do you think this is?” There was a short pause for a moment as Ivan thought about it.
“Maybe it’s some kind of map that will lead us to treasure.” Siss said.
“Or maybe it’s a map to a very powerful weapon.” Bonnie said as she snapped her jaw back on.
“Or it could be a map to some kind of ancient ruins with something forbidden.” Sombra said.
“No, it’s something different.” Ivan said. “Wait a second, I’ve heard of this! This is the map to the Temple of Notch!”
“The Temple of Notch?” Bonnie said in confusion. “I thought it was a bedtime story.”
“Nope, apparently it exists.” Ivan said. “The Temple of Notch is an ancient monument, located far away. Legends say that those who enter, pure of heart, will be blessed with riches and treasure. If they aren’t worthy, then they will be dropped into a lava below and be killed. There is said to be a hidden switch somewhere on the balcony. After 1 minute, the switch will vanish. If the switch is found and activated before the 1 minute countdown is up, a bridge will appear, leading you into the statue’s mouth. In there, could be the thing the illagers are after.”
“What is that, Ivan?” Mayor Victor asked.
“Inside the statue is something called the Ore of Worlds, and inside the Ore of Worlds is the Earth Pearl, one of the 8 Elemental Gems. This gem has the power to manipulate all physical objects and terrain around it. You can make anything with it. Weapons, armor, golems, all kinds of stuff.” If we don’t act now, and the illagers will get the pearl, they’ll become unstoppable!”
“You’re right.” Mayor Victor said. “ Someone needs to go to that temple and get that gem before the illagers do. I am also curious to learn more about these gems.”
“I’ll go.” Envy said. “I’ll do whatever it takes to protect our home.”
“What?! Envy, it’s too dangerous!” Ivan cried. “You’ll die if you go in there!”
“No, Ivan. Let her go.” Mayor Victor said. “She has a good heart. I can see it in her.”
“Ivan, it’s ok.” Envy said. “I finally get to see the world.”
“If Envy is going, I’m going too!” Siss said.
“So will I!” Bonnie said.
“I will too!” Sombra said.
“You can help defend the village.” Envy said.
“Then it is decided.” Mayor Victor confirmed. “You’ll need to head out, immediately.” Later, after hours of packing, they were ready to go.
“Be safe out there.” Ivan said.
“I will.” Envy said. She then hugged him and said, “I love you.”
“I love you too, Envy.” Ivan responded back. Envy then caught up with the group, and with that, the journey to the Temple of Notch had begun.
