Chapter 6 - Goblin Punter
Envy woke up the next morning, and noticed that it was a bright sunny day.
“Good morning, Envy.” Siss said, stepping in the room.
“Hey.” Envy said, trying to get up. “How’s your ankle?”
“Much better than it was yesterday.” Siss replied.
“Good.” Envy said as she yawned.
“The weather feels great out there today!” Siss said.
“Does it now?” Envy said.
“Also, we now have a new visitor!” Siss said.
“Wait, what?!” Envy said as she perked up.
“Yeah,” Siss said, “She’s a zoologist. I talked to her and she was pretty friendly. You wanna come meet her?”
“Sure.” Envy answered. A cool breeze blew as the girls stood outside. “Man, you weren’t joking about this weather!” Envy said. Straight ahead, Andrew and the zoologist were talking to each other. The zoologist was human, but had fox ears and a tail. Envy and Siss went over to go talk to them. “Hey, Andrew!” Envy said.
“Envy, Siss!” Andrew said. “Glad to see you. This is Bindi. Bindi the zoologist.”
“Sup.” Bindi said.
“Hello.” Envy said.
“Do you like animals?” Bindi asked.
“Yes. Why do you ask?” Envy asked.
“I do too!” Bindi said. “In fact, I was collecting critters one time and then some cursed fox bit me in the knee!”
“A cursed fox?” Envy said. “Is that why you have-”
“Yes, apparently so.” Bindi said awkwardly. “Ever since then, I’ve never seen a full moon at night. I usually pass out and wake up somewhere else.”
“That sounds strange.” Envy said.
“Oh yeah, Envy.” Siss said. “Bindi gave me this.” She pulled out a leather whip.
“A whip?” Envy said.
“Yeah, she said she would give it to me if I did this to Dolgrim.” Siss said.
“And that is?” Envy asked. Siss then whispered into her ear. Envy then gasped as a shocked look appeared on her face. “You did not!” she scorned.
“Come on, Envy! It was funny!” Bindi said.
“It was you, wasn’t it!?” Dolgrim shouted as he walked by.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Bindi said back. Dolgrim grumbled and continued walking while blushing.
“So, what brought you here in the first place?” Envy asked.
“I’m actually looking for my brother.” Bindi said. “He’s been missing for days. Have you seen him by any chance?”
“Oh….Unfortunately, no. I have not. I’m sorry.” Envy answered.
“What does he look like?” Siss asked.
“His name is William. He has dark skin like me.” Bindi explained. “Before he left, he was wearing a white shirt with a plaid green tank top, green pants, and white shoes. He said he was practicing golf in the forest.”
“Is that it?” Siss asked.
“Yes.” Bindi answered.
“We’ll see what we can do.” Envy said.
“Thank you two so much!” Bindi said.
“Oh yeah, there’s one thing I want to ask you, Andrew.” Envy said as she turned over to Andrew.
“What is it, Envy?” he asked.
“What is all this?” Envy asked as she pulled out the treasure bag with the mysterious glowing ores.
“Oh, those?” Andrew said as he observed the ores. “The purple ore is demonite, and the red ore is crimtane. These are from the two evil biomes.”
“Are they dangerous?” Envy asked.
“No,” Andrew answered, “but you can make them into bars and get better weapons.”
“Even armor?” Envy asked again.
“Yeah, but you’ll need certain materials to make the armor and the rest of the set.” Andrew said. "You can still make a sword or an axe out of them."
“Alright, I’ll go do that now.” Envy said. “Me and Siss have to go to the desert to get some of her stuff back. See you later.” Envy went inside and smelted the demonite and crimtane ores into bars. She made swords out of both materials, along with a war axe of night. She also made Siss a set of silver armor for protection, as well as a blood lust cluster axe out of the crimtane. With that, they were off. As they walked past whatever was left of the Eye of Cthulhu, Siss could’ve sworn she saw a strange figure running in the woods. It almost looked like it was in the shape of a woman.
"Huh?" She said.
"What is it?" Envy asked.
"Nothing, thought I saw something." Siss said. Eventually, the girls finally made it to the desert. It was very hot, and there were vultures everywhere. The girls had to run, in order to reach the pyramid. When they were safe, they were very sweaty.
“I can’t believe you were able to withstand this!” Envy said panting.
“Trust me! You have no idea what I had to endure!” Siss replied in exhaustion. Envy and Siss found a gold chest containing all of the items Siss left behind. “There it is!” she said. She opened the chest and took everything. “Hey Envy, you want this? It flies!” Siss asked as she pulled out a flying carpet.
“No thanks, Siss.” Envy answered. “I have wings. Remember?”
“Oh, right.” Siss said. “Well, I guess this is mine.” She equipped the flying carpet.
“You’re ready to go back?” Envy asked.
“Yup, that’s all.” Siss answered.
“Alright. Then pull out your magic mirror.” Envy said. Envy was about to use her’s, until suddenly, a voice echoed.
“Dammit!” said the unknown voice.
“Wait, Siss. Did you hear that?” Envy said.
“What! What is it?” Siss asked. Another noise echoed from further in the temple.
“Down there!” Envy shouted as she pointed at a staircase that led deeper into the temple. When they reached the bottom, they fell into a cave full of hardened sand and sandstone.
“Wow! I did not know this was down here.” Siss said.
“How come?” Envy asked.
“You thought I would just go down some random cave with nothing to defend myself?” Siss rhetorically asked. A clack then echoed from a nearby tunnel along with some frustrated groans. Envy and Siss hurried down the tunnel. At the end, they found a man standing near a torch with a golf club. In front of him was a golf ball stuck in the sand. The man took a deep breath as he prepared to swing his golf club.
“Come on. Please be the one…” he said, calmly. He then swung his club at the ball, kicking up some sand in the process. When the man looked down, he noticed that the ball barely moved an inch. He then sighed in disappointment. Envy and Siss looked at each other and then back at the man.
“Excuse me…” Envy then said. The man was startled when she spoke.
“You scared me!” he said.
“Oh…Sorry.” Envy apologized.
“Are you lost?” Siss asked.
“Umm….” the man said as he looked around him, “Now that I realize it, yes. Yes I am.”
“What’s your name?” Envy asked.
“William.” the man answered. Envy then realized something.
“Wait, do you know a fox girl named Bindi?” she asked.
“Hold on, how do you know about my sister? Who are you?” William asked.
“She just moved into our house this morning.” Siss explained. “She sent us to find you.”
“She sent you two?” William asked.
“Yes!” Siss said.
“Oh…Well, forgive me.” William said. Envy then took off her helmet, revealing her face.
“I’m Envy, by the way,” Envy said, “And this is Siss.” Siss took off her mask and her helmet.
“Hi.” she said.
“Thank you two for rescuing me,” William said as he picked up his golf ball, “Bindi must be worried sick about me.”
“She looked like she was.” Siss said. Suddenly, Envy started to hear something.
“Wait, what’s that sound?” she asked. The sounds of skittering could be heard from a dark tunnel on the left. Everyone was silent. William then took out a glow stick and threw it into the tunnel. The light revealed a swarm of antlion chargers and swarmers coming towards them. Everyone’s fight or flight responses then kicked in.
“Run?” William asked.
“Guys, grab onto me!" Envy yelled as she pulled out the magic mirror. Siss and William grabbed onto Envy’s shoulders.
"Envy, what's the plan?" Siss asked.
"Look into the mirror!" Envy said. As they did so, they all disappeared. After the blue light faded away, the group could see they were safe and back at the house.
"We're alive!" William shouted.
“Phew! That was close!” Siss said. Just then, Bindi walked in and couldn't believe her eyes at what she saw.
“Big brother?” Bindi said. “Is it really you!?!?”
“Bindi!” William cried.
“Oh my god! I thought I lost you!” Bindi yelled as she went to hug him. William hugged her back.
“Where have you been? I thought you were dead!” Bindi asked.
“Well, I was practicing some swings in the forest,” William explained, “and then I….unintentionally got myself lost in a cave full of sand. That's when I was found by these two.” He then pointed to Envy and Siss.
“Envy, Siss. Thank you for saving my brother.” Bindi said, gratefully.
“No problem.” Envy said.
“We actually didn’t even know he was down there.” Siss said. “We just heard him playing golf in the sand."
"William, the desert is a terrible place to play golf. You know that!" Bindi scorned. William sighed.
"I know. I know, sis. I guess I just got a little too cocky." he said. "At least I brought some food and water with me." Just then, Frederick bursted through the door in a panic.
"They’re coming!" He yelled.
"Frederick? What's up?" Siss asked.
"They’re coming for us! We're under attack!" Frederick said.
"Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Slow down, Frederick. What's gotten into you?" Envy asked.
"I just said they're coming for us!" Frederick said.
"Who is!?" Envy asked again.
"Envy, you might wanna come see this." Andrew shouted from outside. Envy and Siss hurried outside where Andrew is staring at something approaching in the west. “Do you still have those binoculars?” he asked.
“Yeah.” Envy said.
“Can I please see them for a second?” He asked. Envy handed him the binoculars. As he looked through them, he had a worried look on his face.
“What is it, Andrew?” Envy asked.
“There’s a goblin army approaching from the west!” Andrew cried.
“A what?” Siss said in confusion. As Andrew observed some of the goblin soldiers, he noticed some of them holding up banners. When he zoomed in on the banners, he could see a very distinct logo on them.
“Oh shit! It’s not just any goblin army.” Andrew said. “It’s the Zeroto Clan, one of the most feared goblin empires in all the land! It is led by the one and only General Snare.”
“Who is General Snare?” Envy said.
“Oh you’ll know him once you see him, Envy.” Andrew said. “You’ll know him once he stares at you with his blind eye.” Meanwhile in the distance, a goblin warrior was observing the house through a spyglass.
“There, General. That’s where the scouts spotted the merchant.” the goblin warrior said.
“Ah. Should’ve known there were more of these settlers out here.” General Snare said. “They think they can just live here? This is our land!”
“The queen will be proud once we obliterate these trespassers!” a goblin thief said.
“So, do we want them here?” General Snare yelled.
“No!” the goblins chanted.
“Are they welcome here?” General Snare yelled.
“No!” the goblins chanted again.
“Then let’s give them hell! For the Empress of Shadow!” General Snare yelled.
“For the Empress of Shadow!” the goblins chanted. General Snare then blew his battle horn. As he did this, him and the rest of the clan charged towards the house in the distance.
“Envy, they’re coming!” Andrew cried.
“Get inside! Me and Siss will try to negotiate with them.” Envy said.
“What?!” Siss cried.
“But Envy-” Anndrew said.
“Just go!” Envy cried. Andrew obeyed and rushed into the house. Envy then waved her arms around at the goblin army. “Heeey! Stop!” she yelled. General Snare noticed Envy. He then did a hand signal, telling the goblins to come to a halt. The goblins obeyed and stopped.
“Envy, what do we do?” Siss asked.
“It’s ok. Let me do the talking.” Envy said. She then turned to the goblin army. “Greetings, fellow goblins,” she shouted, “We don’t want to fight! We come in peace!” There was a moment of silence. General Snare then broke the silence.
“Trespassers, you are standing in the territory of the Zeroto Clan.” he shouted. “You need to leave immediately!”
“Look. Whatever we did to make you mad, we’re sorry.” Envy said. “Can’t we just negotiate?”
“There is no negotiation here!” General Snare shouted. “This land belongs to us! You either leave or die!”
“Ok, not the best negotiator afterall.” Envy said.
“Can’t we just share it?” Siss asked.
“We’ve done that before, but the other settlers saw us as enemies.” General Snare said. Envy then removed her helmet, revealing her face.
“What do you mean by that?” she asked. General Snare then noticed Envy’s face.
“You’re actually not from around here, aren’t you?” he asked.
“Huh?” Envy said in confusion.
“You’re not trespassers. You’re aliens!” General Snare yelled. “You’re coming with us!” Just then, an arrow landed right next to his feet.
“Back off, Snare!” a voice yelled. Andrew and the other townspeople rushed out to help.
“So, you think you have what it takes to stop us from claiming back our territory, huh?” General Snare said.
“This land is for everyone, you big bully!” Bindi said.
“And that goes for us too!” Frederick said.
“Just hurting innocent people won’t solve your problems.” Holly said.
“All of you are liars!” General Snare yelled.
“Snare, please! We really mean no harm.” Envy said. “Let us just go our own separate ways!”
“Enough, alien!” General Snare barked. “Attack!” The goblins then charged towards the group. Envy and the others braced themselves as they charged towards the goblins. Two goblin peons ganged up on Bindi.
“Get her!” one peon said. As they attempted to restrain her, Bindi then lunged at one of the peons and scratched them to death.
“Hal!” the other peon cried. William then came up behind him and smacked him to death with his golf club.
“Hands! Off! My! Sister!” he said. Akbar swiped his exotic scimitar cutlass at a goblin warrior that was attacking him. The goblin warrior then swiped back with their battle axe, but Akbar blocked the attack.
“Wimp! You think you’re so strong with that blade? Well, my axe is stronger!” the goblin warrior bragged.
“Think again!” Akbar said as he then splattered a jar of dye in their face.
“My eyes!” the goblin warrior yelled. Akbar then pinned them down and stabbed them in the neck. As he did this, a mob of more warriors was approaching him from behind. Before Akbar could turn around, an explosion went off in the crowd, sending guts and body parts flying everywhere. When the smoke cleared, Dolgrim could be seen in the aftermath, laughing.
“Never mess with us dwarfs, goblins!” he said.
“Dolgrim, over here!” Akbar shouted. Just then, Dolgrim saw another mob of goblin warriors behind him.
“Akbar, get down!” he shouted as he threw a grenade at the mob. Siss wrapped her leather whip around a nearby goblin sorcerer and then flung them into the air. A goblin thief then rushed from behind her and slashed her back while cackling. Siss turned around to see the goblin thief holding a knife.
"I'm going to cleave that smile off your face, alien!" the goblin thief said with a mischievous grin.
“Wait! You don’t want to!” Siss said.
“Heh! Why? What are you gonna do? Explode?” the goblin said as he laughed. Siss then used her finch staff to summon a finch minion. The goblin thief then screamed as the finch swarmed him. Siss wrapped her whip around his leg and then flung him into the woods. Suddenly, Siss was surrounded by more goblin thieves. As they closed in on her, her body began to glow white and hiss, until she blew up. Goblin sorcerers surrounded Andrew and Holly.
“These are sorcerers, Holly! Be careful!” Andrew said. The sorcerers then started casting shadowflame chaos orbs at them.
"Get down!" Holly cried. Her and Andrew hit the dirt as the orbs flew over them. Andrew fired his bow at one of the sorcerers. Before the goblin sorcerers could cast more chaos orbs, Frederick rushed in and threw knives at them. All of the sorcerers fell to the ground, bleeding to death.
"Ha! You're welcome!" He said. An arrow then landed next to his foot. A line of goblin archers slowly approached them with their bows armed. Frederick and the others ran as they opened fire. Envy then flew in and bashed her way through the archers with her shield of Cthulhu. Suddenly, something grabbed her from behind and pulled her backwards. General Snare then grabbed her by her neck, pointing a harpoon gun at her.
"You’re not winning this easily, alien." He said. "You’re doomed to fail." Envy then grabbed his face and used her darkrune fire magic to burn him. General Snare yelled and threw Envy to the ground. "You wanna fight dirty? Then go ahead! Show me what you got!" He said, angrily as he drew out his sword. As Envy stood up however, a bunch of goblins rushed in and restrained her. Two goblin archers stood beside General Snare with their bows drawn. A goblin thief was getting ready to slice her throat open, until General Snare stopped him. "No! Leave her alive! We're taking her, prisoner." he said.
"Aww! Seriously, General!?" the goblin thief complained. Just then, two loud bangs went off as the two goblin archers dropped dead with blood gushing from their heads. The goblins restraining Envy suddenly dropped dead as well. Envy and General Snare then looked in the distance and saw two silhouettes. One of the silhouettes pointed in a random direction and the other ran off.
"What in the?" General Snare said. He then fired his harpoon gun at the silhouette. A crack noise could be heard as the harpoon pierced through. Then suddenly, the silhouette pulled out the harpoon and threw it back at General Snare. The harpoon hit his armor with a clang. Snare was confused. Without thinking about it, he attempted to fire his harpoon gun at the silhouette again, but then his harpoon gun got destroyed after a loud bang went off from the silhouette. General Snare now understood what kind of threat he was dealing with. "Shit! Retreat, everyone! Retreat!" he yelled. Him and the rest of the goblins then ran away back the way they came, never to be seen again. The silhouette then approached Envy.
“Hey, are you alright? Get up.” the silhouette said in a familiar voice, reaching out her hand. When Envy stood up, her eyes widened as she could see who it was.
“Bonnie!?!?” Envy cried.
"I'm sorry, do I know you?" Bonnie asked. Envy then removed her helmet. "Holy shit! Envy!" She then yelled.
"Bonnie!" Siss cried as she rushed over and tackled her with a hug.
"Siss, get off of me!" Bonnie yelled as she was knocked over.
"Sorry." Siss said. They then stood back up.
“Where have you been?" Envy asked.
“Well, it's a long story. I woke up in this weird purple forest and found this thing in a cave." She responded as she then held out a musket.
"What is that, Bonnie?" Envy asked.
"That right there is a musket, young lady." A random voice spoke. Envy turned around to see a strange man holding two flintlock pistols. "A very old gun with a slow rate of fire."
"Guys, this is Xavier the arms dealer. He sells pretty cool range weapons called guns." Bonnie said.
"And yet I'm surprised that y'all never seen guns where y'all came from." Xavier said.
"Xavier, this is Envy and Siss, my best buds." Bonnie said.
"Hm. Pretty cute names. Seriously. " Xavier said.
"Aww. Thanks." Envy said, blushing. Just then, a snap echoed from the woods. The others turned to the source of the sound with their weapons ready. A few moments later, a woman with green hair stepped out from the forest. The woman wore nothing but a moss-like bra and loincloth.
“Uhhh…. Hi.” Siss said awkwardly.
“Greetings, brave warriors. I am Calista.” The woman said. Envy noticed the outfit she was wearing, as well as the color of her hair. A look of realization then came onto her face.
“Wait, are you…….a dryad?”
