Hehehehh

I've watched it again some days ago with my mate !

By the way, said mate has a thing to say to you : he noticed you draw your creatures mostly from the side and came to other postures for humanoids. I think you already work on that but I pass it to you

Cool.
I´ve wondered what kind of creature the predator really is  based on. Some kind of scorpion or crab? Nicely done.

I thought the fugitive predator had a cool design, but I really disliked the giant new cgi monster.

It was acceptable, alothough I've seen a comparison of all Predator suits over the years and an iteresting fact that author pointed out is that the only one with fully functional mouth part was the first one. All others have the mandibles sticking out like some ridiculous tusks; This might be a small detail but I think it is worth mentioning; Overall what I mostly referred to in the description was the dumb retconned lore; It seems like a parody of a Predator.

MikeGCoolGuy In reply to KingsOfEvilArt [2018-10-07 19:18:07 +0000 UTC]

As for the mandibles, I do think it's funny how people design their predators to have huge mandibles with massive tusks without realizing the mandibles are cheeks.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, I loved the fact that such an advanced race as the predators could be so tribal and savage, being big game hunters that sought challenges. Turning them into DNA-splicing alien invaders was a horrible decision. I'm glad the new movie and won't be getting a sequel, hopefully the studio learns its lesson.

There won't be the sequel, despite they hinted Iron Man armor? Good. gooooood. Maybe some day we will get another golden era for monster movies, as was the 80s and early 90s.. and the Predator will be reborn... I am daydreming here but whatever.

Yup! No sequel! The studio lost nearly forty million dollars, not counting the advertising. Hopefully we get a better movie in the future.

I was more concerned over how they kept trying to show how great their new monster is by beating the "weak" normal predator.

Its JP Spinosaurus all over again.

Complete disregard and disrespect for original source material, if this fails they will be crying back to whatever hole they came from and try to bring back cameos and shit to bring people back. But it'll be too little too late.

I AM SO MAD THE PREDATOR IS NOT ONLY FORGOTTEN BUT NOW ITS RESURRECTION ENDED WITH BASTARDIZATION

What happened to my favorite alien race... they had such a cool culture and code of honor... why did they have to make them so dependent on basically game cheats and upgrades... it just defeats everything they stood for...

It will never be forgotten.

But yeah, not only it does not fit but also they replaced this unique concept with a bunch of most generic alien tropes and Iron Man armor.

Goes to show how following a popular trend is a near final death sentence for a movie's world.

And it wasn't even the only issue with it, at most it would have been unremarkable but now it is without a doubt counting as bad.

It is a damn shame that this franchise is cursed with such bad luck.

TheWatcherofWorlds In reply to KingsOfEvilArt [2018-10-10 07:09:52 +0000 UTC]

A population momentum scenario combined with the present industry's influence maybe?

Some large number of the present creators right now probably didn't grow up on the really good shows like Batman TAS/ Teen Titans and ect. as well as some sorts of the greater anime like Naruto.

So it stands to reason they have little dreams about going beyond what they were inspired by and more of trying to stay relavant or push agendas instead of write actual stories, for the ones that actually do make it to becoming creators.

And without the will and initiative of the creator in some places like movies, the Industry tries mimicking the surviving works that were successful such as the MCU or hiring people on their own, based on popularity and previous success with no fathoming of why it was the case. When in fact there are many factors that contribute to said success.

Such as Zack Snyder with the DC universe or more appropriately Shane Black with the Predator.

In Zack's case he did a great job at Watchmen and is overall great at designing a scene artistically, but if one would look closer Watchmen is not quite right as the comic and tinged with his own style such as brutal violence with no real meaning.

And in the DC movies misunderstood the importance of source material such as Batman's no kill vow and Superman being extremely human. So there is something lost in translation, its not his fault entirely.

And Shane Black? he just threw out the source entirely and built his own idea of what the predator should be like making them generic pussy aliens. And Industry might have influenced it too judging by the whole inconsistancy with the theme.

Least that's my theory.

I for one want to get in there and do something my way.

I miss the stories of shows and movies which can really twist my heart and blow my mind, something in the space between gritty realism and regular cartoon charm.

Something like anime.

KingsOfEvilArt In reply to TheWatcherofWorlds [2018-10-10 20:32:23 +0000 UTC]

Some good points.  Also, I think there is a combination of several contradicting factors; On one hand the movies have become DESPERATE to implement references to other (better!) entries in the franchise; The movies are no more standalone pieces; Everything has to have a sequel or a prequel etc.  At the same time, there is no genuine care about the lore and continuity and this makes all the references even more shallow and meaningless. Just like the references to Arnold's memorable lines in the recent parody of a Predator movie, they only made it more apparent that the new one is so much worse by contrasting it with the first one.

Yet another issue are the everpresent reshoots; this makes everything even less consistent as changes are made to the screenplay at the time of some portion of the movie already being done. In the past, the pre-production times were much, much longer, sometimes giving the moviemakers years to get a clear picture of what they want as well as prepare some technical aspects of the movie before shooting even started. Now, often the story is almost being made up on spot. -.- (for example The Hobbit) Marvel escapes this because they actually have everything planned and very consistent - this is the only way a multi-movie project can work. The buildup for 1st Avengers was flawless. The buildup for Infinity War had some minor issues, such as Black Panther but overall it's a great accomplishment, and an unprecedented one, I think.

TheWatcherofWorlds In reply to KingsOfEvilArt [2018-10-11 05:44:20 +0000 UTC]

Ahh I see... reshoots like this must be the reason these many movies can come out in at least a year or two. Its just working the filming on the fly eh?

For what its worth this kind of trouble will probably consume itself eventually leaving only the fittest of them if you will, while other industries give up on a fruitless effort or at least take some much needed time for creating things.

Monsterverse is looking pretty good. Quite an untapped mine there.

But all the same I think its time people risked stepping out a bit of the things already done before, just in case the good stuff is also exhausted.

I am not sure about the last part, I bet makers of Predator or The last Jedi considered themselves doing just that. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheWatcherofWorlds In reply to KingsOfEvilArt [2018-10-12 11:42:16 +0000 UTC]

Fair point.

But what I mean is people and industries as a whole should try doing *original stuff* as well outside of adaptations and reboots, the public have set images of these franchises with history, and its nostalgia has its limits.

Plus its very difficult for someone at the helm that's unlucky enough to misinterpret or choose to throw out an established theme and story. Take Tri Star's Godzilla for instance, they tried to go a realistic route and that sacrificed so much of what Godzilla was, and the worst part is the director admitted he actually hated Godzilla.

Now parallel that with Guillermo Del Toro and the Hellboy series, he was passionate and was truly in with the story and that equals a successful adaptation with only the most minor of changes since he respects it so much.

And finally Teen Titans the Judas contract, a comic story that started out run of the mill black and white infiltrating traitor Tera

was actually improved to be a deeper and more sympathetic character than what the writer described as some people are just bad. But that alone doesn't make a good solo story.

See its just so difficult since people are all different.

But if someone were to create and build on an idea of their own it can seriously improve a story since it is theirs and they have full control  and if they fall they don't drag a whole thing down.

I dunno, this business has many variables... more like a whole spectrum of ideas.

Im just gonna leave it at that.

I just miss this more personal style of writing that I grew up with.

I fear i have seen the last of it at the end of the cartoon renaissance and it will never even reach films because people will always see them as kids stuff.

KingsOfEvilArt In reply to TheWatcherofWorlds [2018-10-14 09:53:34 +0000 UTC]

I certainly miss the original stories but I don't think that they would change much at this point; It's entire way that those movies are made now, I think it used to be much more of a gamble, and now they play everything (almost everything) safe in order to appeal to everyone. The new original movies would be just as dull; I mean we almost got that! Think of the new Star Wars movies; All of the rules are being rewritten, how the Force works, what droids are, hyperspace travel, fucking fuel crisis etc... If not for the references to better movies that are more and more (F)forced they would pass for compeletly different universe, and no one would care about them, they'd be B-movies with A-movie budget. These movies are basically Bufallo Bill from Silence of the Lambs, wearing the skins of previous SW and dancing in front of the mirror XD

TheWatcherofWorlds In reply to KingsOfEvilArt [2018-10-14 11:07:07 +0000 UTC]

Well said, sometimes I wish there were more people that are genuine and passionate with their movie work like say Guillermo Del Toro or in animated series like Brue Timm and Batman TAS, they don't hold anything back with their stories and in Del toro's case the designs and philosophies.

The DC animated shows were like the glimmer of aspirational potential I want to strive for in my own stories.

The only predator that's not a person in a suit is the giant monster from the newest movie, every other predator has been someone wearing a predator suit.

That's not necessarily true. The old Predator from that movie was practical, it was the super predator that was CGI. That's what I heard it from a YouTuber I'm subscribed to, who's a big predator fan. Though I haven't seen it yet, or the other movies.
