Description Phase-III version of the Kiev class Heavy Frigate which uses a modernized saucer section, Mark-V "Blooming Phasers", Mark-V torpedo launchers, and LN-70 warp nacelles.

kodai-okuda.deviantart.com/art…

The Porter class is named after the 1930s US destroyer.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porter-c…

This class is classified as a "Heavy Destroyer" due to its use of the "rapid-fire" Mark-V photon torpedo launcher that can fire multiple photons at once allowing a smaller number of launchers to be mounted on the vessel.

The Porter was built as part of Starfleet's general upgrade/retrofit program for vessels built prior to 2250 due to the expansion of Federation space and the growing threat posed by the Klingon and Romulan Empires.

This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.

Hello:

 Very nice ship and role. I can indeed picture it in fleet formations .

 Is there any reason why the nacelles are that far away from each other?

Hi Chiletrek,

Thank you.

Yep, there are two reasons.
Chandley class Frigate is part of the inspiration for this ship, but it is also due to the Cherenkov radiation from the warp nacelles when they activate.

Chandley class:

Hello:

 Well, the ship is... interesting, very FASA-like . I am not sure I would do  aversion of a ship like that one .

 Sbout the riadiation, I just read a bit about that, It is tempting to imagine why warp nacelles' coils are blue... but why in most ships the nacelles are not near that separate?

Hi Chiletrek,

I might actually do my own version of the Chandley.  I like that design, it has a very "Klingon" look to it.

Truth be told, when the warp engines "FIRE" the whole ship of every Star Trek design is bathed in Cherenkov radiation.  In fact, if the physics on warping space time is correct, then everything within several kilometers would be exposed to it when the engines jump the ship into warp-space.

Hello:

 Darn! It's too late to edit and fix my typos .

 It does indeed, and I suppose you'd keep it's mission profile too?

 Well, that presents a problem, because unless there are ways to heal all crews from any radiation poisoning, or if the hulls are resistent enough, then none of the Trek ships should be safely made!

Hi Chiletrek,

Yes, the mission profile for these ships primarily combat oriented as a frigate leader and/or destroyer leader.

Ooh, nice use of the Phase II nacelle aesthetic.

I don't envy the people stuck in the secondary hull, the radiation there must be intense given the placement.

Thank you.

Dual deflectors prevent them from being TV-dinners.
