Description

Elneri is a Dunmer vampire member of Lord Harkon's entourage. Together with her Sire Feran Sadri she serves as the court alchemist, until the arrival of Serana turns her world upside-down and forces her out of the castle.
Elneri is a meek, softspoken and rather anxious mer, who does not share the warped values of Molag Bal. The Oblivion Crisis, the Red Year and two centuries under the abusive grip of her Sire have left her severe scars, both mental and physical.

BACKSTORY

Elneri is the only daughter of Daynali Dren, a brilliant alchemist and member of a rich Telvanni family in Vivec. Following the daedric worship scandal involving her lover Gilles - Elneri's father - she leaves Vivec for Tel Mora, where Elneri is born and lives up to the Oblivion Crisis, when the town is felled by the daedric forces and Daynali killed by a dremora. Repudiated by the rest of her family due to her heritage, Elneri is taken in by her uncle in Balmora.

The Red Year destroys her new home and family and Elneri is forced to leave Vvardenfell alone. She, like many other Dunmer, seeks refuge in Windhelm. The Grey Quarter's poor living conditions, the unbearable cold and a wasting disease seem to seal an inevitable death. The table turns when Feran Sadri, at the time an agent for clan Volkihar in Windhelm, crosses her path. He takes her in as a disposable thrall but then, struck by her outstanding talent in alchemy, offers her immortality and safety in exchange for eternal loyalty.

When Elneri comes up with an alchemical recipe to conserve blood for an indefinite amount of time, Feran takes the merit for it and finally gets admitted to the higher circle of Lord Harkon's court. Things take a turn for the worse for her after they settle in the castle. Feran's behaviour toward her worsens and most of the other vampires show her nothing but hostility. Trapped in anything but name, Elneri resigns to go on with her bleak existence, certain that will come the time for her Sire to grow tired and finally dispose of her, but the unexpected return of Serana sets Elneri's life in motion once again.

Serana's companionship grants Elneri some respite and support, but things get complicated when the former decides to involve her in leaving castle Volkihar. Despite Elneri begging her to reconsider it, they set off for Fort Dawnguard to ask the vampire hunters for help against Harkon. Isran refuses to listen to their pleas: the only things he wants are information about the vampiric court and to get rid of them afterwards. Elneri manages to escape but a group of Dawnguard soldiers soon reaches her. She seems to be done for until an Altmer sellsword comes to her rescue.

Dismayed and alone in a land she knows very little about, Elneri convinces herself that the only thing she can do is return to the castle and beg Feran to take her back. She, therefore, sets off with Atalmo at her toes, unaware that this stubborn and apparently simple-minded mer will upheave her whole world.
