Description
The perfectly matched Gresley 'N2' No. 1744 and teak 'Quad-Art' set No. 74 skirt the North Sea between Sheringham and Weybourne on the North Norfolk Railway on 21st November 2018.
1744 is an 0-6-2 tank engine, built by North British Locomotive company, in 1921.
Owned by the Gresley Society.
The LNER N2 class worked in London on empty carriage movements as well as short train fast speed suburban trains of its own. They also worked in and around Glasgow and Edinburgh also on suburban trains.
1744 itself worked the London services and withdrawn in 1962 at New England, Peterborough. Being bought by the Gresley Society a year later (1963)
On the water tank, you see GNR which stands for Great Northern Railway, a company which existed from 1850 to 1922 and ran trains from London to York, before the merger and the formation of the Big Four, with GNR becoming a part of the new LNER [London and North Eastern Railway]
