Description
Near Wheeler, TXAn approaching storm moves slowly across the plains as sunset falls over an old homestead in a young wheat field. The clouds above are the warm air thunderstorm inflow as it passes overhead. Picture was taken looking directly west into the sun as it squeezed through the surrounding clouds. At this point, it began to sprinkle and I was flying by the seat of my pants trying to capture the amazing spectacle, color, and light as it changed rapidly.

****Please check back soon as I upload a few other shots of the same scene, but at a few minutes apart to see how much the light changes as the storm passes over and the sun sets****

Ha! At the time, my instincts kicked in and I felt vulnerable...almost like the sky was going to fall!

I think I'd like a crop of just the clouds - they are so amazing! Great work on catching the light and avoiding the downpour I checked out the other images as well. Really beautiful.

Thank you and you're right, just the clouds would probably make for a good pic by itself.

You've got some pretty awesome looking sky scapes yourself! Some of these storms are equally magnificent and terrifying all at once. Since I'm a little new to actually trying to chase storms, I've got a lot to learn...safety is always number one!

So amazing I like the tiny spots of purple hiding in the clouds.

That's one of those small details that I was happy to have captured. There was actually several more spots that were visible in person, but the camera is just not quite as good as the eyes at picking up the variables in light.
