Description

Profile | Gallery | Journals | FAQ Soooo I randomly decided to make a tutorial for this, since I like drawing grass and it seemed simple enough. Adding all the text took waaaay longer than the drawing itself xD the drawing was pretty quick actually. As the title suggests, this is meant to be a beginner's tutorial, and does not present very difficult concepts, though it can be challenging on a first try so be sure to do multiple attempts if you plan on trying it out! I'm sure it's possible to make something way more extravagant than my example, so go crazy!

I thought I'd also share my SAI brush settings so you can use the same brush that I used in the tutorial. This brush can be used for practically anything.

I'm constantly changing the density while using this, putting it lower for blending and higher for sharp edges. For the tutorial drawing I had it at about 80-100 the whole time. I also change the min size a lot depending on what I'm drawing. Higher percentages are better for blending, and lower percentages are better for detail. So for details I usually do 0-40% min size and 100 density, while for blending I might put it at 80-100% min size and 30 density. I also change the "Acrylic" amount when painting in order to get the right amount of texture. Try out different settings to find what works best for each thing you draw!

And I would like to recommend a book by Jack Hamm called "Drawing Scenery: landscapes and seascapes" it helped me a lot when learning about composition and how to draw backgrounds.

As always, enjoy!

"THIS, WILL COME IN SOOOO HANDY FOR SOMETHING SOME DAY" my thoughts whenever I see a tutorial about something, and for most of them I never use them XD BUT WHO KNOWS MAYBE I WILL
Anyway, thanks very much! I'm happy to share my knowledge. I also find it really interesting how complex things turn out when you just keep adding little bits to them. But one must remember, a painting is created one stroke at a time! It just takes patience to put enough strokes down to make something amazing.
