I just found out you can get a "Reverse Mount Macro Adapter" that'll do this for you for under $15 on ebay! My GF just surprised me with one... and its freakin awesome. That way you dont have to hold it so steady, and you can adjust your focus a ton easier!

I tried it and love it the only thing is that its soo hard to focus anything. But its a fun challenge.

Lara how much practice did you do before it worked, mine just turned out a big blurry blur. How close should you be?

You can actually buy a proper adapter to physically screw the lens on backwards.
You can also set the aperture by setting it with the lens mounted normally, pushing the DOF preview button and removing the lens.
Nice tutorial.

Generally this is a very good technique, but on cameras such as the 5D due to the sensor being full frame, I generally would advice against it,due to risk of dust I used to do this alot with my 50mm f1.8 on my canon eos 300D, but due to the ammount of dust I was getting I decided maybe wise to invest in a macro lens
Still great tutorial!

yeah I bought one after some time cause i was worried about dust - my camera is a bit messy inside actually.

and if you try and clean it yourself and mess up, then its alot of money down the drain! I have to send my 5D back for cleaning soon, but I cant bare to part with it

Took a while to save up, well worth it if you want to do landscape, but you do mainly portrait if I am correct in assuming, your probably best off with what you have, unless you want mirror lock up, full frame sensor ect ect
