Cool. I think there were 2 types of Imperial Guards: ones with the supposed second gun and ones with a four-pronged "cattle prod" claw. I've always thought of the Guards as being more fanatical, due to their proximity to the Emperor, and especially so towards the "God Emperor" at the end of Season 1.

Very true. And yes, indeed, a few black-domed Daleks are seen sporting the assault claw thingy (technical term, that).

Thats so obviously a big gun! multiple spectrum scanner, just sounds like the plunger.
So why change the design of it?

i own one and its not a second gun its a multiple spectrum scanner. although i thought it was a gun too.

Call it artistic interpretation. I think it makes more sense for it to be a weapon of some kind.
