Description Well, if someone tackles things in the style of the old TV21 Dalek Chronicles, it's fair to say that a hoverbout model will be in the offing. I shall refer to it, henceforth, as a trans-solar disc (if anyone knows where that term comes from, I'd be interested...). This is for several reasons, not least because that's what they call them in the Dalek Empire audios. Chiefly, though, it's because I think that term gives a better idea of what they could be used for in these days of all singing, all dancing, all flying Daleks. A means of crossing solar-systems without taxing their own motivators, I should say, and otherwise covering larger distances at greater speed.

And, why the heck shouldn't I model them as, since Journey's End, they have actually officially appeared in the on-screen!

Dalekmania is Terry Nation's fault.

I think the term Trans-Solar Disc is first used in The Dalek Book (1964) by David Whittaker and Richard Jennings

I suspect you're right! I've never read that book myself, but I know it's where a lot of the expanded universe Dalek details originated.

Lovely pic!
Just one question though: why do daleks need a flashlight ?

To see where they're going, of course!

Seriously though, I suspect it's a bit more than a flashlight - probably some sort of sensor to augment the pilot's eye when in flight. On the other hand, it could simply be a spotlight for use when chasing down potential slaves or survivors of an attack.

Am I the only one that hears the Jetson's car "putter" when I think of this thing flying?
Anyway, great stuff as always.

Thanks. And I rather suspect you're not, though I've never really considered it before...it's that kind of design, isn't it?

"Dalekmania is Terry Nation's fault"

Ha!! I'll have to phrase it that way in future.

"...all singing, all dancing, all flying Daleks..."

Possibly the best description I've ever heard of the RTD era Daleks

And great pic, also. Nice choice of perspective
