Description
On to the variants! Watched Remeberance of the Daleks again yesterday. The Imperial SWD swinging into action still looks fanatastic.Terry Nation created the Daleks. Ben Aaronovitch came up with the SWD (I think...)

i read somewhere that the hump in the chunkey daleks back is a storage unit for weapons like a flamethrower or the special weapons cannon. so even thought this is cool it is not necessary. they just need to show us the weapons in the chunkey hump

It was to swap the arms, so when you think about it, they couldn't fit a SWD cannon into the arm-hole (for want of another name), so they would need a SWD sometimes.

Heh. I've tried to work out how to redo this with my new version of the NDP but it hasn't come together so far, unfortunately.
Glad you like this one though!

the emperor only appeared in the books. however, there was a blue emperor in city of the daleks.

Um. What? The Dalek Emperor has appeared in two televised stories, several dozen comic-strips, about five or six audio stories and (to the best of my knowledge) two computer games. Including City of the Daleks and The Eternity Clock, both of which featured New Dalek designs for it, one, as you say, in blue. The other is purple and is a new design, as opposed to just re-colouring the Emperor from Parting of the Ways and giving it a new dome.

Oh, and it also appeared in a stage play, but that probably doesn't really count. Also, did you mean to put that comment on one of my Dalek Emperor pictures?

It did, but I don't really have a problem with that myself. Practically speaking, it makes sense to have the focus be on modern, fully-functional props, as opposed to older ones that might not stand up to scrutiny in front of the cameras. Also, I'm fairly sure that the SWD had been in an exhibition for a long time, so it might have been stripped of its internal workings (always assuming it wasn't just a static prop built for display purposes).

"Remembrance of the Daleks" is awesome. The Special Weapons Dalek was awesome. Therefore this is awesome. I never had a problem with the Imperial Daleks at all - the gold-on-white livery was actually quite attractive and as for the "vacuformed" look being a problem I personally think it was preferable to the increasingly knackered recurring props of the previous 15 years. And the novelisation was superb.
Apropos the Special Weapons Dalek not having an eye... given that the eye stalk of a regular Dalek seems on the face of it to be ludicrously vulnerable it sort of makes sense. This is heavy artillery that is not intended for solo excursions, therefore it doesn't need anything more than basic vision. I just assumed it had a pared down visual sensor in the slots at the top of the dome and if it required any more sophisticated sensory information they would be fed to it from outside.

Something to remember - which didn't get into he script - was that the Special Weapons Dalek was completely insane. Some of them even had their vocal cords removed because many had a tendency to blabber so insanely that it unnerved even their allies which is saying something when you think about it
Consequently, they have no 'eyestalk' because they don't need one. There is usually one SPWD per fleet - controlled by the emperor. They can't 'move' themselves because they can't see - they aren't meant to see. The mutant inside is basically used to 'hold' the energy charge until its time to blast a shot - it's why their called abominations and so very VERY amazingly insane
-grabs hold of the SPWD and squeezes- I LOVE the 2010 Dalek design ^_^ combining the two just made my day

Yeah, I think I accept most of that for this. Where did you get that info from? And thanks, glad you like it!

From the TARDIS wiki and the novel for the episode it's amazing what information the novels for each episode contain in reference to the episode itself

The novel is brilliant, isn't it? I can't recomend it enough. It's one of the best that ever got published in the Target line.

They were - or at least, the one in existence at that point was. I rather liked the idea, so I ran with it.

A lot of people really seem to hate 'Remembrance,' mostly because of the white Imperial props. I love them... it's probably my favourite Dalek story after 'Genesis.' SWD was AWESOME.
I like that you've given your SWD here a sturdier looking base and a more obviously swiveling midsection... I think he needs a small, maybe recessed eye though, or a hint of one inside the neck slats!

I thought about given them an eye. And...well, the fact that it would probably not show up very well, I kind of like the complete absense of an 'eye'. It's odd, but them being 'blind' seems to suit them somehow...not sure how to explain it but the upshot is, any kind of visible eye always looks off to me when it comes to SWDs...
Remembrance is brilliant from start to finish. I don't care about the cobble-wobble and the vac-formed Impies, they had two opposing Dalek armies blasting the heck out of each other in British back streets. It doesn't get much better than that.

love the picture!
The supreme dalek... Barouhn, i think, had a little eye in the second empire comic. I thought that looked good.
