Description
So, partly, here's some progress on my shuttecraft model. But also, something I put together while off sick the other day.
It's based on a piece of fan-concept art I saw years ago for a small Federation ship and from what I can recall, it looked a bit like this. I found it a fundamentally charming idea and decided to render a version to go alongside the Excalibur, but I cannot find the original piece anywhere. So if anyone can point me in the right direction, please do. I would love to give the appropriate credit.
In the meantime, here she is so far. As you can see, she's a diddy little thing, just able to fit aboard and equipped for landing and presumably fast warp travel. Not really much to say, but I think it might be a fun idea to work up further.
EDIT: Thanks to Kasterborous for pointing me to the source! The concept art I was remembering is this by Jason Lee (aka Vektor over at TrekBBS), who did a rendition of the Sulek Class from one of the Pocket Book novels: www.trekbbs.com/threads/someth⦠. Obviously, my version ended up a tad less lean, so I may have to do some revisions!

Your Very Welcome!

I like the cabin section on the top. It reminds me of a ship's conning tower and a tugboat. Though the deflector dish makes it look bloated, but that's just me.

Since Kasterborous dug out the original picture that inspired the design, I've gone back and slimmed down the lower hull a bit. The deflector dish is staying the same size but hopefully it'll end up looking a little less absurd. The tugboat look is very much what I was going for.

That is a great design but I think it needs a bigger deflector dish Β

I'm slimming her down a bit, but that dish is staying!

It looks hideous if I'm being honest... Yet Ironically I love it!Β its like a Star Trek Recreation Vehicle.Β
I want one!

Thank you! I think . . .

Interesting design. Tried thrashing out any specs yet?

Not really. The whole point of the big deflector dish is to imply she can go extremely fast, but beyond that . . . I'll wait til I'm finished.

Possibly, possibly. Not quite what I'm going for, I think, but I admit I've not nailed down what it actually does yet!

It did come out rather submarine-like . . . I'll try and resist the urge to stick a periscope on the top!

I like it, looks like it could be a little civilan craft.

I'm possible a bit too enamored with the idea of sticking a full USS . . . and NCC- registry on something this small to do that right away, but I probably should consider alternative, slightly more sane possibilities!

Well, it has a feel of a TOS-era runabout and they had full registries. So don't really see a problem with that.Β For one of my Oberth Classes I gave it a different NCC... I think it was NRC or NSC, (Navel Research/Science Contract) bascially to say that it was a 'civilian' craft.

Makes me think of the Sulek class prospector ship from the TOS novel "How Much For Just The Planet?" β cramped, warp capable, just about fits in a Constitution class shuttlebay, and boasts an impressive sensor array/navigational deflector system.
EDIT: I just Googled that and found what I suspect to be the very piece of concept art you're referring to β and lo and behold it's someone's rendering of the Sulek class! Β www.trekbbs.com/threads/somethβ¦

By George, you've got it! That's exactly what I was thinking of! Thank you so much for digging that up, I shall apply appropriate credit forthwith!
Very interesting to see how it mutated in my memory!
Thank you again!

Yep, definitely. Very small warp reactor just behind the impulse engines, or something along those lines!
