This as a strong dynamic -cross, but also turning movement in the background. I am not sure I like it, it makes me too unconfortable, but it is impressive.
And I like the colorset very much.

Thank you, the color-set was important.
It makes me feel uncomfortable too but that was part of the intention.

BARRICADE
anagrams:
in the RABID ACRE of the RABID RACE
All the helmets of the matchstick soldiers are gone. A sea of coagulated blood mixed with the color of army uniforms and mud, and the black barrier that is both the burnt cross (later to be multiplied into the white crosses in the Normandy cemeteries) and the broken "hooked" cross -- the Nazi swastika being destroyed.
This is a wonderful example of superposition (since we were thinking of Schroedinger's Cat). And I seem to have seen this before the other painting!
What I especially like about this one (though it might be a relic of a flash photograph) is the contrast between the gloss and the flatness. If it was a flash photo, it seems you focused it in the center of the cross and got just the right flash glare to add thematically to the composition.

I thought you might 'recognise' it!
Seriously though I am quite happy to entertain the possibility that you have!
A wonderful description of the scape I was trying to portray; with more than I intended frankly, so very interesting reaction thank you. Means I'm doing my job I guess... (:
The "wet" effect is the flash, taken with an awful camera ages ago and tarted up to post here. As I said I was surprised I had not catalogued this before and can't take a new picture right now. But yes it does add thematically and suggests what happens to some of my work as light travels across it...as it is all lacquered.

It's a dark painting. I see a burned & chard cross; which brings to mind the KKK cross burning..which were/are used as barricades or intimidation tactics to keep blacks (& other minorities) out. I see bricks flying....Violence in the cover of night.

It's a very dark painting, Gloria. It's actually an older piece of work that I am posting after having a conversation with someone here. I can see where you are perceiving violence. [link] Thank you for the comment, always interesting and appreciated.

Thank you for the Normandy Landing video link. You depicted those barricades perfectly I can now see where you were going & how this piece came to be.

Thank you, yes if you look closely there are matchsticks (headless, just the wood) in there.

Nice. Never would have thought to use those for textures.

Always great to see new work from you - this is very foreboding, and somewhat of a deviation from your normal style - I wonder if this is the beginning of a new era in your work?
great work as ever!

Thank you very much. It is a deviation from the series, it's an older piece that I had not posted before, hence the difference in style and colour. I am posting it following a conversation with someone here.

Thank you very much, Teresa. Yes there's matchsticks in the paint. It's actually an old piece I had not posted before, some newer work on the way.
