The camera I had at the time was...shitty. But at the time, at least I had a camera. Thank you for the comment.

I like your works, they are beautiful in their unadorned simplicity, with depth.

It reminds me my childhood, then in my city often was switched off the current and we were sitting in darkness, only in light of kerosene lamp.
everything, I remember of that time, is black or grey colors and smell of kerosene.

prisoned in the light. in cage of light, where you can't see anything, cause light blinds you.(i'm not sure is it possible to say it in that way, my english sucks)
and maybe someone is looking at you, while you sit in that cage, and maybe she wants to help, but she does not know how.. cause it seems fine to her, cause you're in light, and everything is fine, if it's in light, cause they say so. But when you look at yourself from side, you can see how much dark surrounds you. and that darkness is without cages..

Thank you, Δikarda for your words. Despite you saying your English is bad you have used it to amazing effect here to describe almost exactly the story behind this painting. I really am thrilled to read your comment as it makes creating this painting a worthwhile use of my time. It is for people like you (and myself) that I create these paintings for.

Your paintings reminds me alot of poetry. Cause in poetry, just few words can have more meaning, than some long books have inside of them. And it depends only on person, who can look deep enough, to touch authors feelings putted beneath the words. Or visuals, like with you.
I'm amazed, how with such little you can fill so much.

Thank you for that description, what you describe is what I would like my work to do so it makes me happy to read that. My only regret is that I seem to have chosen a way of making art that so few people see in the way you describe.

well, but would you be happy making superficial art? well, probably lots of super realistic paintings would make you maybe even rich, but would it be worh it?
so it's not worth regreting it.

No, I have stayed true to my reasons for painting for twenty years and it would not be worth it to compromise, that would defeat the reason. But being poor means a lot of restriction in what we can do/experience in life.

thank you andrea...i was in a state while working on that piece, it was a while ago now, but it still seems close...i like to think that my state of mind while painting is honest/truthful.
yes i do know...so rare to find anyone who 'gets it', it would be quite an experience i think if we met, we would definitely be friends, i'm sure of that.

Old work or not it is absolutely stunning. At the second I saw it, it made me think of Soulage's giant paintings, only made with black medium and that becomes vibrant when light touches it, creating a whole new world of Clair-Obscur. I really love the crack textures (sorry for my poor english vocabulary) that suggest life under the thickness of paint. This paint could be very gloomy but it's actually glowing with light... incredible !

Your English is wonderful. I love your comment about there being life under the thickness of the paint, this is something I am very aware of in my work, the feeling of what cannot be seen hiding under the surface. Comparing me to Soulage is pleasing, thank you. You have very accurately described how this piece works with light, which impresses me, as I would not have considered this came across in a static photograph. Thank you for such a wonderful comment.

(smile) hmm... let me think... I need to turn feelings/senses to words here...
the bright square and whatever inside it... I see a brush, and I can't help but think it represents you... maybe it's too simplified (way) to see this work, I'm maybe wrong... the dark area is very "rich" but dark... while the bright one is much smaller and "imprisoned" - but bright!
I don't see faces... I see dichotomy and a conflict...
and it's a wonderful piece!

oh...that's a really wonderful comment, ilil.
Thank you so much for your words...I suppose you could see it as art sometimes trapping me and enslaving, as opposed to being in control of what is happening in my life. Art being the expression of where we are in our lives, (for me at least) if we are being honest! Sometimes my art tells me things I don't even know. Like when I am in a darkness which I have created but not realised it's mine and not what others have done to me!...hehe, if you follow...
Thanks again....have a lovely weekend!

(smile) I like this sentence "Sometimes my art tells me things I don't even know"... many times, when I'm working, I can almost "hear" myself thinking... and the subjects I choose are never random
have a nice weekend too Lien, and keep on your wonderful work!

Thank you so much ilil, "many times, when I'm working, I can almost "hear" myself thinking... and the subjects I choose are never random" exactly...I know exactly what that feels like, I think only artists know that feeling. Have a lovely day.

Great depth. I really like how the textures really add to that depth and constriction of being in a cage.
