really impressive piece you created, and you have great talent. please contact me at nasab_5@hotmail.com to discuss further on this piece itself as I would love to include it in my next piece involving the idea and symbolism of the bridge. Thank you, and keep doing what you do, it is beautiful.

the tension between the two red curves is infinite -like endless electricity

(smile) do you paint from "your head"? I thought we always need to work from some "existing" source... even if we change it later on ...

i think my head is the place where technique is stored...
we always need a starting point...an intention...thats the existing source...but following this some control has to be relinquished for invention to happen...then we have something new and unique!

iram In reply to lien [2007-10-28 07:00:58 +0000 UTC]
yeah, I understand that... but this "starting point" - is it "real" (which means you can see it), or you just say "today I'm gonna paint a bridge" ?
sorry if I'm nagging with my questions... I've just started taking painting lessons... my teacher said "you always need an "existing source" as a starting point", but it reduces my subjects... (it's a piece of cake in my PS work, cause I use pictures)

no...I don't think "today I'm going to paint a bridge".
I'm an expressionist so I work from my experience of being alive and use events as my subject matter...so the starting point is me! I'm expressing feelings about things, not using nature as a visual reference for a painting!
I don't see why there has to be an "existing source", why can't the intention for the painting come from something like pure movement (Jackson Pollock) or chance, like leaving a canvas out in the rain?
Your not nagging...I don't mind questions

This is precisely my attitude when it comes to 'making photographs of reality' exist as abstract expressionist works in their own right that might conceivably have been painted without a 'model' or even any special intention except to excite the eye; evoking a definite mood or resembling a scene of any kind would be a bonus. Your work does all the things that good abstract expressionism should do and more than most of it actually does.

Thank you very much indeed, I am extremely grateful for your kind words.
If I ever exhibit again I shall be asking for your permission to share the last sentence in the catalogue/info sheet.

Be my guest. I'm not an expert but I've seen my share of abstract expressionist art and doing it well is harder than Jackson Pollock makes it look. I've stood close to my share of Rothkos, as well:
[Rothko goes cubist?]
[not even a real Rothko! In fact not even a painting.]

hey! sorry for the delayed answer... I was busy elsewhere
yes, you're right, of course... maybe it is my teacher's way to teach, and not necessarily her jeneral attitude for painting... or - she's a poor teacher
anyways - thanks a lot! I'll keep it on my mind next time I'll start a new painting!

funny I see this as flying sparks or something similar, not a real solid bridge...the space below seems infinite and deep...a horizon far away...I like that...
it also reminds me of a very old photo negative...
excellent.....

The bridge is lifting, allowing for ships to pass underneath, a temp. gap. Why is it in red? I wonder.
Or maybe the bridge is being built by two different sides & trying to meet in the middle...but maybe like Irish engineering they didn't quite get it just right & have to make adjustments.
They COULD just keep building till each connects with the land & have one bride for traffic going both way.
More then one way to accomplish a goal or communication....keep building bridges!

I ask myself if this bridge is broken or not. Facing the night, facing it, going into the void below. I like the richness of the textures and minimalism of colour set.
