Description Another character inspired by Final Fantasy XII.

Character Background:

V'Jal is a warder of the Viera people and wears their dark armor. Upon failing to pass the test for her fourth ring of protection (self, family, clan, and country), the elders of her clan decided it would be best if she went to the world outside the Golmore jungle to learn how world affairs can effect her home. To this end, she has been assigned Vein as her ward. V'Jal takes her work seriously and will protect Vein to the very end.

Even though V'Jal views her current assignment as a punishment, she has started to learn the value of interaction of the races through Vein's work. She has little love of Humes, Bangaas, and Seeqs, however, she has developed a strange affinity for Moogles.

Details:

It was always my plan to do two characters. I have wanted to render a street market scene with two Viera characters interacting with a vendor. This is the second character. Now to start work on that scene....

Overall, she is not a whole lot different from the Vein character I worked on other than the head and face morphs I also created some new toe morphs to move them around as well as some new ear morphs. (well... ok... there are a lot of differences....)

Beautiful detail! Warrior-esque...I actually thought it quite rare a style, after seeing the viera in Golmore. FTW. Fran's outfit was actually pretty unusual.

I can't stop staring at the faaaace. *wonders if you would be interested in making a 3d tutorial*

Thank you! I spent a lot of time on her face and it is my favorite part of this piece.

Oh, she looks damn good in green. I love the textures. (And the lighting, of course).

I was originally going to do a dark blue-green metal, but then I pulled the green leather mat out of my library and was stunned at how good it looked.....

I really want to add a feature to PIBL to create a "sphere" that can be added to the scene so reflections match the lighting. Right now, I'm debating about doing that and my next render....

That leather is soooo cool. I likey lots.
Yeah, do it! DO IT! You mentioned the sphere idea before, and it would be a most awsome feature to have.

First I have to figure out how UV-mapping works.....
(That is... how does one map texture coordinates to surface coordinates?....)

I think it would also help me figure out what color ligt is coming from where.

UV mapping isn't so hard. POV-Ray can map an image onto a sphere without UV mapping, but then it might not match up with the lights, or maybe it will?? If you can use just POV code and no UV, you wouldn't need any obj file.

Lokai2000 In reply to parrotdolphin [2006-12-12 05:42:21 +0000 UTC]

Like you said, without UV I can't guarantee the sphere mapping will match.

parrotdolphin In reply to Lokai2000 [2006-12-12 05:57:27 +0000 UTC]

If POV-Ray does it the same as you do it for the lights, it would work and it would be easier because you'd just need the one image, instead of one image for the lights and one image for the UV map. Might be worth a little experiment, at least.

Lokai2000 In reply to parrotdolphin [2006-12-13 01:42:18 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I plan to use the same image for both. The sphere would also pick up its position and rotation from the ibl.inc file as well. It would be the same as the light sphere location and rotation.

The problem is that I do a weird mapping from the image to the sphere. I would call it spherical mapping exactly... It might be close enough though. Wouldn't hurt to try.

Well, good luck. I hope you do it. Ah, you're smart, I bet you can do it if you want to.

I wonder how will it be to pose her with the leg scaled like that? I am currently trying only 5% leg scaling with Terai Yuki 2 and there are serious transition problems that cannot be solved with the tapper dial. Aiko is a better candidate for that kind of thing, but still, chances are things will not conform for some poses. It beats me how stretching can cause so much trouble.

I feel your pain. I had to adjut the bend of the shins by 1 degree. However, it seems more like the JCM morphs might have been the real problem.

It seems I can stretch the shins without much trouble, but strecthing the thigh just screws everything up.

ken1171 In reply to Lokai2000 [2006-12-12 04:52:16 +0000 UTC]

JCMs can be all disabled by saving Aiko to the library. Even DAZ has realized how unfriendly this is to developers and created their new V4 using magnets and morphs instead of JCMs. I am more than happy to hear that.

On the other hand, the promissed Poser 7 SE release *never* happened today, and e-frontier didn't even bother to explain why. Last week they set the time and date, and now it simply didin't happen. This is a little more than teasing - it's a slap in the face, considering they claim today's release was a way to show appreciation to all those who pre-ordered it.

Same here. I haven't got any email saying it has shipped. I did get one saying the official order was placed though... Not sure what that means.

Oh, I didn't get ANY emails or notifications. I just went to check my download area at CP and the Poser 7 SE pre-order was still marked as "download disabled". Looks like nothing really happened today, except that CP was extremely slow today. Maybe they are enabling downloads sorted by ordering date, so that earlier orders will be processed first. Or maybe P7 is just not ready for release yet.

Very groovy! Hellfire, this one is sexier than the last one! Love the halberd, too! Dang, you're getting really good at this stuff! O-kay. I'm overly impressed. LOL

Are those real ears or a metal head-dress they have? They look like metal.

Glad you think so. I think she is sexier than the last one.

Nope, those are real ears, but the lighting was alittle over exposed and caused some washout on the ears.

I wanted a scene with the regular aiko character in it. What is not so obvious is just how bloody tall these characters are. Aiko only comes up to her chest.

Ack... I have been doing this for a couple of years now. I use 3DMax, Poser and a variety of other tools. If you want to start into character design, you may want to look into DAZ Studio or Poser.
