Description Since I just packed everything in one image, the file size is big. Sorry about that.
Hopefully it's not too confusing. I'm trying my best to explain how I ink.

Tools used for this:
Regular 2 HB pencil (for sketch)
Pentel Polymer Eraser
uni-ball Vision Exact (for base and re-inking)
uni-ball Vision Fine (for touch up inking)
and 8.5"x11" Sketch book
Photoshop for clean up. You may also use Gimp for the clean up, or other free softwares with Level or Histogram tool.

Thank you so much for this! I have yet to find a tutorial that explains line weight to where I can understand it.. and this one does. Awesome job.

Is it just me, or Allucard looks kinda girly? Lol, Girlycard

Now seriously, I like your tutorial. I tried to ink the same way but I always felt I did something wrong. And I never found any tutorials (except damn Photoshop Inking tutorials), untill now. And I'm happy to see that someone's still inking without using PC too much.

So, thanx!

This was helpful. But I see that you used uni-ball. I have tried that in the past and I fount that they skip. could it have been just the way I was useing it or could it have been just maybe I didnt use the right ones you had listed O.o

I guess it depends on the paper too. Some paper are more "slippery" than the others, and are easier to smudge. Also don't press too hard, it tends to make pens "skip" too.

I only just read it, so I haven't used your advice yet, but I'm sure it will be very helpful. ^^ Now I know you can do line variations after the initial inking.

What kindof pen do you use that doesn't bleed and makes nice fine lines"?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

look In reply to sphinx-face [2006-03-30 21:07:34 +0000 UTC]

And on a side note, the pen I usually use are uni-ball vision brand.

look In reply to sphinx-face [2006-03-30 21:05:02 +0000 UTC]

Most of the pen I use bleed a little. But drawing on good paper such as bristol will reduce the bleed. Also try pens that dries pretty quick, so less chance for smear and bleed.

That's clever, I need to try that... I'm having much the same problems with dynamic inking, and that looks like a cool shortcut.

Uhm. Not that I've inked more than three pictures in the last three years.

Thank you. I sent the note. Although I'm not sure if it qualifies, since this tutorial is based on work I did with pen on paper. [link] <-- that is one tutorial I think would be more helpful to photoshop users. It's more on the adjustment layer techniques.

Very interesting tutorial. I'm tickled how the process you use is similar to the one that I was shaping up on my own. I think If I hadn't seen this tutorial, I'd eventually end up with the same process. In any case, I think I'll use your guidelines next time I ink something. ^_^
