Description
“Avast my hearty crew! As we begin to discuss the final sea faring race of Estea, these are more common than Scyphozoa, but not as popular as Merfolk. I bring ye the Dagonian.”“Dagonian; [Dag-on-ean]”
“Regarded as Human and fish hybrids, this aquatic species is unique when compared to the previously mentioned, as Dagonians are capable of living on land as well as on water, making them amphibious. This single difference makes this race invaluable to the Merfolk and Scyphozoa, as Dagonian often act as ambassadors for them. It is heartwarming to see all three species working together to venture to the surface or to simply help each other with their desires. Dagonians themselves are bipedal more often than not, with more animalistic features than Merfolk as well. Also grouped into three major variants, Dagonians are able of having subvariants depending on certain species they take after. Although able to survive on land, Dagonians have a stern dislike and weakness to intense heat.
“Finned; [Find]”
“The most common and well known of the Dagonian. Finned are also the most generalized variant out of the three. Typically making their home along the shoreline or amongst marshes, but they aren’t limited to those locations and can be found almost anywhere. Finned Dagonian have an average lifespan of 80 years and reach adulthood at 15. Moreover, they have an average height of 6 feet or 1.83 meters, although both their height and lifespan can vary based on subvariant. Physically, Finned Dagonian are much more animal-like in appearance, more scaled in texture and bearing fins on their bodies. Even their eyes are glossier, all of this culminates to allow the Finned Dagonian to survive in both underwater and on land. Moreover, Finned Dagonians have an affinity towards Aquanna Magic. Socially, Dagonian will be born and raised in the ocean, only later in life will Dagonians begin life on land. Relatively wild, incredibly excitable, Finned Dagonians have little knowledge of cultures and civilizations on land, making them eager to learn and dangerously curious. Dagonians will often attempt to live amongst other civilizations, with seasoned Dagonians helping other aquatic species live comfortably on the surface. Finned Dagonians have a great kinship with the Amphibious, Merfolk and Scyphozoa.”
“Scylla; [Sil-uh]”
“The second most common, Scylla are the tentacled Dagonians of Estea. Scylla are more restrictive in homes, either close to water or in civilizations with access to large amounts of water. Scylla have lengthy lifespans, roughly similar to Elves, they live for 700 years on average, but reach physical and social maturity at 20. They have an average height of 7 feet or 2.13 meters, but it can vary based on the length of their tentacles. Scylla can vary physically, with tentacle placement and amount. Physically, Scylla have rubbery and squishy bodies, covered in slime to prevent dehydrating. Their tentacles are strong and capable of lifting up the individual and acting as additional limbs. Scyllas have the inherent ability to produce ink, whereas their ink can be used for confrontation, consumption, and other questionable uses. Alongside being more dexterous, Scyllas are very cunning and excel at problem solving. Socially, Scyllas are solitary creatures, preferring to keep to themselves. Moreover, Scyllas are born in the ocean and only rise to the surface when mature or when the individual chooses. In other civilizations, Scyllas dislike being the center of attention, adopting fashion trends amongst them to better hide their tentacles. They enjoy the presence of Dagonians and Scyphozoa.”
“Ray; [Rey]”
“The final variant, Rays are relatively simple when compared to their peers. Rays make their home on the shoreline, rarely appearing in other civilizations that are farther from the water. Rays have a healthy lifespan of 90 years and reach maturity at 18. Additionally they have an average height of 6 feet and 4 inches or 1.93 meters. Physically, Rays are much lankier in build, broader shoulders and thinner bodies. Their arms are unique as they are large horn-shaped cephalic fins and the only method of aquatic travel, Rays swim by flapping their arms in a similar fashion to wings. Due to this, most Rays must keep these arms exposed to swim effectively. Rays also have a long, whip-like tail, this tail is not traditionally poisonous, but some subvariants of Rays have poisonous tails. Socially, Rays spend most of their lives in the ocean, only surfacing when absolutely desired. Like Finned Dagonians, Rays are very curious of other cultures and species, admiring them while swimming around them. Rays are indifferent to most species.”
“Dagonians are vital bridges for most aquatic species, allowing the world under the sea to interact with the world under the sky. Although a heavy task for Dagonians, very few view this as a burden, often enjoying helping others with no other reason aside of good will. Many species desire to have grand relations with the aquatic kingdoms, and their helpful nature will prove vital in this effort. I welcome the usage of ambassadors, but as it stands, most Dagonians must study up on the various cultures and languages held here on the surface. It's very sweet to see one try to formulate complex diplomatic relays with limited vocabulary.”
