Description “For the 9th day of the Feature of Creatures, I bring you the most common and recognizable race of the waters, The Merfolk.”
“Merfolk; [Mer-fohk]”
“Merfolk are the most prevalent aquatic race in Estea. As they have the top half of bodies being Humanlike with their bottom half being remnants of various fishes. Contrary to popular belief, many Merfolk can live on the surface, granted they require to be moistened regularly. Moreover, most Merfolk live in a matriarchal society.”

“Fresh; [Fresh]”
“As the name suggests, this variant of Merfolk thrive in freshwater and tropical environments. Fresh Merfolk have an average lifespan of 90 years with a maturation at 18. Fresh Merfolk have an average height of 6 feet or 1.83 meters. Physically, Fresh Merfolk are much smaller than their other variants, being built thinner to swim through river rapids easier. Socially these Merfolk are your typical mermaids, kind and compassionate.”

“Brackish; [Brak-ish]”
“This variant of Merfolk lives in the swamps and brackish waters of the world. Brackish Merfolk have an average lifespan of 100 years and a maturation at 18. Additionally, their average height is 7 feet and 4 inches or 2.24 meters. Physically, they are longer than their peers, with less pronounced scales and more production of mucus. This slimy texture allows them to avoid being caught much easier. Moreover, Brackish Merfolk have advanced eyesight, adapted by living in murky waters. Socially, they are more smug and self focused than the Freshwater Merfolk. With little indifference towards the other races.”

“Sea; [See]”
“Merfolk of this variant populate the sea as the name suggests, specifically twilight and sunlight zones of the ocean. This variant has an average lifespan of 125 years and a maturation at 18. Furthermore, they have an average height of 12 feet or 3.66 meters. Physically speaking, these Merfolk are both a lot bigger and a lot stronger than the previous variants, a majority bearing physical reminders of their strength, such as scars or muscles. Moreover, Sea Merfolk are strictly carnivorous, with extra rows of teeth that regrow quickly. Many of the Sea Merfolk have their animalistic qualities taken from varieties of sharks. Socially, Sea Merfolk are either found in their own civilization or roaming solo, with the ladder very territorial of their hunting grounds. However, they are not ones to attack provoked. An additional peculiarity is how they have a fascination with pirates and would often adopt their dialect and demeanor. Besides a fascination with Human culture, they are indifferent to most races. Killers are the exception as they pose threats to them.”

“Midnight; [Mid-nahyt]”
“Midnight Merfolk populate the ocean similar to the Sea Merfolk, with the key difference being that they live in the deeper midnight zones. Midnight Merfolk live, on average, to be 110 years with a maturation at 18. They have an average height of 10 feet or 3.05 meters. They are unique to the other Merfolk as their animalistic features are across their whole body, with deep dark purples and black being their color of choice. Midnight Merfolk have a luminous lure attached to their head, in which they use to lure prey and to express their current emotions. Midnight Merfolk often live in solace and are unaware of the effects happening above them. However, they are kind, expressing themselves in unique manners that always mean well in the end. They enjoy the presence of the Drow and Duegars.”

“Killer; [Kil-er]”
“The rarest of the Merfolk, Killer Merfolk are an unique diversion to typical Merfolk in both physicalities and demeanor. Living in arctic waters, these Merfolk are a dangerous creature lurking in the depths. Living on average 200 years and a maturation at 18, with an average height of 22 feet or 6.71 meters. Physically, Killer Merfolk are more mammals than fish, bearing resemblance to orcas. Thus, Killer Merfolk have no gills, and legs to boot. Killer Merfolk bear great strength and endurance, alongside intellect. Killer Merfolk are named to be one of the most sadistic creatures on Estea, as being carnivores, they hunt intelligent species exclusively. As their hunting preferences led to several sunken ships and rerouted trade routes. Killer Merfolk typically live in groups of 4 or alone, with the former using pack tactics to both attack and enjoy themselves attacking. Frightfully, Killer Merfolk love Goblins and Koblods because and I quote, “They look funny when they plead and drown.” With Humans being a treat due to their, “Cute and misguided superiority complex and how that changes when their in real danger.” Make note to avoid these Merfolk whenever possible.``

“From the cute and kind to the fearsome and sadistic, Merfolk are an interesting mixed bag of characters. With the overall perception of them being mixed as well. I personally don’t like them due to the fact that once you’re in the water with them, you’re at their whim if you’re not prepared. Thus the nickname of "Siren" being used. Plus the fact that not only are the Queens bigger than their average variant, but Merfolk as a whole grow in relation to available food and in this current year, it makes for a dreadful combination. That is why I don’t swim, and why my wife’s snark on my ability to swim is misguided.”
