Description
“The fifth day of Creature Feature, today it brings us the interesting Beastfolk”“Beastfolk; [Beest-fohk]”
“Bipedal Mammals, as one would be bold to summarize. However, this species is quite interesting by bringing many questions to the table regarding their biology, physicalities, and social behavior. Especially with Humans, as their appearance can generally be regarded as "attractive" one would assume no caution is required when approaching, but with their ability of magic, an assumption that Beastfolk are superior to Humans would be more correct.”
“Feline; [Fee-lahyn]”
“Otherwise regarded as cat people, these variants of Beastfolk are intriguing as they share commonalities with both wild and domestic cats. Firstly, Felines have an average lifespan of 90 years with a maturation at 18 years of age. Moreover, They grow to an average of 6 feet and 2 inches or 1.88 meters. However, their breed may affect both age and height. Physically speaking, their bodies are very Humanoid, sharing a body structure similar. However, their bodies are still animalistic, baring large paws with retractable claws. With the same said for their legs, tail, whiskers, ears, and general demeanors as well. Felines are incredibly agile as expected, making them hostile and efficient hunters, stalking in the distance. Interestingly though, their relationship with Humans, originally seen as indifferent or even hostile towards Humans, a noticeable amount are very close to them. Resembling attitudes of common house cats. Moreover, they live in grasslands, forests, and even the cold tundras, whether in tribes or civilization with Humans and other species. Felines are very cautionary however, only truly trusting a few select individuals. Another interesting feat of Felines is their cunning intelligence, laying traps for their prey or simply tricking Humans. That being said, Felines are creatures of pride and glory, enjoying the presence of those they trust or those they can trick.”
“Lupine; [Loo-pin]”
“This variant of Beastfolk are similar to Felines, sharing commonalities with both wild and domestic canines. Lupines live in packs or civilizations in the tundras and forests. Lupines have an average lifespan of 90 and a maturation at 18, and with an average height of 6 feet 2 inches or 1.88 meters depending on breed, they show more similarities with Felines. Their physicalities are similar as well, with animalistic ears, tail, legs, and arms, however they bear smaller paws and duller claws. Lupines are tough, living in packs since the start of their life; and loyal, staying within groups for as long as possible. Lupines have a strict familiar code of ethics, staying and working amongst their peers is the most important aspect of their life. Interestingly enough, these Beastfolk also appear near Humans as well, with a lovely bond of protection to boot. In civilizations, Lupines will try to remain in groups of 3 or larger, if not they will sulk and face mental strain. Another fun fact is that Lupines are very emotion driven, building near unbreakable bonds with their peers, whether other Lupines or not. Lupines enjoy the presence of Humans nonetheless.”
“Aries; [Air-eez]”
“Aries share commonalities with sheep and ram. Living in grasslands or Human civilizations. Aries live to be 82 on average, with a maturation at 18, similar to Humans. Aries grow to be 5 feet and 10 inches or 1.78 meters on average. Physically speaking, these Beastfolk bear large curved horns that of a ram, with wool growing throughout their bodies like sheep. Although they share animalistic legs like the other Beastfolk, Aries and a few others maintain Human hands. Their wool is thick, and can be used defensively if grown long enough, otherwise their horns are their only method of physical attack. Even then most Aries wear loose robes to make room for their constantly growing wool. That being said, Aries have built a mutual bond with Humans, Humans care and protect them while they produce wool for the Humans. Aries have now grown dependent on Human care and affection, growing sheepish if none or nearby.”
“Equine; [Ee-kwahyn]”
“This variant of Beastfolk share commonalities with horses; they are in layman's terms, centaurs. Equines live to be 70 on average, with maturation at 16. They have an average height of 6 feet and 8 inches or 2.03 meters. Physically, their upper body is Human, with the lower being equine. Thus, they have great speed and endurance. Equines live in grasslands and forests, living in nomadic civilizations. Equines are morally just, fighting for honor and the good for the many. Their relationship with Humans is mixed, remaining roughly business, only interfering with Human matters when needed. Otherwise, Equines are self sufficient, depending on only their own strength on moral code.”
“Bovine; [Boh-vahyn]”
“Bovines are an interesting variant of Beastfolk, sharing commonalities with cows. Similar to Aries, they make homes in Human civilizations. They live to be 200 years on average with a maturation at 18. They grow to be 8 feet and 10 inches or 2.69 meters. Bovine Beastfolk weld great strength and greater horns. Furthermore, their animalistic features remain as their legs, ears, and tail; as they are similar to Aries with retaining Humanlike hands. Although separate tribes and nomadic groups exist, Bovines are more often amongst Human civilizations. Like Aries, Bovines have built a bond with Humans, guaranteed it is not as dependent as Aries. Bovines act as special reinforcements for battle or labor. As compensation, Bovines receive special treatment, a luxurious way of life called "Wagyu". Bovines enjoy the presence of Humans, but not much else.”
“Ursa; [Ur-suh]”
“Beastfolk of the Bear, this variant lives in forests and taigas, with little Human interaction. Ursas live to an average of 100 years, with a maturation at 18. Ursas have an average height of 7 feet and 10 inches or 2.39 meters. Ursa have their animalistic features surrounding their ears, arms, legs, and paws; with constant claws to boot. Ursas live differently than the other Beastfolk, as they live exclusively in small groups, often even alone. It's rare to see one in Human civilizations. Even still they portray very Human emotions and practices, much more than others could learn. Still Ursas bear great strength, making confrontation dangerous. Luckily Ursas are slow, with moving downhill the easiest method of avoiding them, as their center of gravity shifts due to their egregious agility and reaction time. Nonetheless, Ursas live a calm life if undisturbed, simply eating, sleeping, and hibernating when the need arises. They do showcase a particular interest in both Humans and Bees.”
“Hellhound; [Hel-hound]”
“A unique variation of Beastfolk. The Hellhound, as the name suggests, was a denizen of the Underworld, only recently migrating to the surface to live life. Hellhounds live to the age of 200 on average, with a maturation at 18. With an average height of 6 feet and 8 inches or 2.03 meters. These beasts are a menace to the surface as the can harness both Infernal and Abyssal Magic. Not to mention their strength, speed, and general personality being an utter horror to trudge through. They refer to themselves as "The Dogs of War" as they participate in raids on civilizations often. Hellhounds take enjoyment in Human tragedy and suffering, often putting a façade that even they can be turned to good. Nonetheless they have a knack for kidnapping Humans who pity them. Interestingly enough, individuals can take a fondness on the pleasant civilian life, and make deals with the civilization leader to allow them food and board as they protect from future attacks. How quaint, that the façade was a projection of their true feelings sometimes. However, at the end of the day they are still dangerous. Just the other day as I was gathering intel on a rather peculiar habit of 5/4-Orcs. Just as I was on the brink of a discovery, a pack appeared and attempted to haggle me for everything I had, lucky for me, these loudmouth Hellhounds are thick headed and stubborn. It didn’t take long for the 5/4-Orcs to notice them as I hid by a fallen tree. It was deeply amusing to see them scurry to the hills, but I did catch one of them saying that I was "marked". I’m not sure what to make of the term, but I know I won’t be leaving my house any time soon, I just hope they don’t hold a grudge for long.”
“Beastfolk are definitely an interesting bunch, many of them relate to Humans and live amongst them. Even so that doesn’t air some of the burning questions about them. Like how they originated? How do they view their animal counterparts? And why do many not only consume the counterparts of their peers, but their peers themselves? Not to mention the dietary deviations each variant has. But I must close this passage of my teachings, I presume I have been rambling for far too long.”
