Description
Fishing boats had been reporting scattered sightings of something massive below the waves for weeks. You have to understand, this was before the early detection systems; back when people were still optimistic that whatever was causing these huge creatures to come ashore was going to end soon. Back before it became a regular thing. It was good timing that she was there, but it wasn't luck. The Director, her friend and colleague, had cultivated an instinct for knowing which sightings to believe and which to ignore.
Soon enough, there would be two giants towering over that coastline.
Several of the big sources of inspiration for Vigilant Lioness are the shows I watched as a kid. Of those shows, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers is the one that I look to most often. Each episode always featured an interesting, often bizarre, monster. I don't know that I want to go as zany and wacky as they sometimes did, but it's good to think about regardless.
Beginning with the frog creature in Lions at Daybreak, I've been making an effort to flesh out the monsters that the women of Lioness are up against. This painting is another step towards that goal, and it's the first piece to star one of these colossal beasts.
There's more giants and giant monsters in the works, so stay tuned!

I enjoyed this one overall, but my favorite part is the illumination coming from the headlights of the car. Pretty useful for what looks like the beginning of a dark and stormy night.

That's one of my favorite parts too! I'd love to explore that kind of dramatic, stark lighting in future pieces. Thank you!
