people have said there's no real plot. just pretty graphics and all my music friends say the soundtrack is just Titanic remixed!

There's a plot, just not one you haven't seen many times before, and it takes forever. Not sure about the soundtrack part, I've only seen Titanic (and only part of it) so I don't remember it's sound track. Pretty awesome cgi though.

Trust me, seeing Avatar in theatres, and in 3D, and, if possible, in IMAX 3D.... totally worth it. DVD will NEVER capture this, Blu-Ray won't, even.
