Description
For more Lil Formers head to LilFormers.comSo, I put up my initial thoughts on the Stargate Universe premiere in my last journal post.
After having a few days to think I about it I've decided on the main reason that SGU's first episode left me not so blown away. It's basically that the threats on the previous series SG1 and Atlantis, and the scope of the universe have escalated so far that nothing seems impressing anymore. SG1 took us to dangerous new planets, neat! Atlantis took us to another galaxy with the possibility of no return, wow! Universe takes us to a farther away galaxy with the possibility of no return...mm, allrighty.
I'm also wondering who the villains will be on this series. SG1 had the Goa'uld and the Ori trying to enslave everyone. Atlantis had the Wraith trying to EAT everyone...will be tough for Universe to top that with something scarier. There's not really any sense of danger at all on the series so far. Sure they're on a decrepit ship with no air, billions of light years from home. Whatever, they'll fix it & get back. Even the cast don't seem too worried about it, heh.
I guess we'll see next episode.

After the last one I got to saw you might wanna add "Farscape" to the stew, because their ship seems to have a mind of it's own!

I haven't seen the show yet, but that's because I'm wary to. I love your picture and that you used Teal'c though! He doesn't get enough appreciation sometimes, hehe.

They're going to run out of Twinkies in the next episode and the ship is going to stop at the Twinkie planet for resupply.

This explains where Teal'c was when the other SG-1-ers were getting their guest spots.
As for the villain of SGU, the soul-searing boredom is more dangerous than any Goa'uld, Wraith, or Replicator. It buuuuurns!

I have to be worried. To me, it does look like a Battlestar clone, mainly because it seems like Sci- I mean, Sy-Fy (seriously dumb name) wants to get back with Battlestar's popularity so much so. Me upon the other hand, I really don't care for the whole darker and edgier feel.
As for the main villains, I hope they don't go cheap and make everyone the villain.

i just hope it's a quality show...not just a battlestar galactica clone with a star gate thrown in just to make things interesting. not a big fan of the first episode to be honest. give me colonel "macgyver" oneal any day.

Oh, Atlantis... How I miss you.

I watched SG:U last night, and actually this was my first time watching anything Stargate since the original movie (which I haven't seen since it came out, so I don't remember very well ). I was also underwhelmed. There was just something about Battlestar Galactica that got you excited right off the bat; the way it was shot, the acting, the concept; this show was pretty tame by comparison. I'm reserving judgment until they have more episodes, but so far, not looking great. Not bad, but not fantastic either.

You forgot having a timer on their life support thus making it even more dangerous!
Also, I see BSG in SGU more than anything else.

I think a good route to go would be this: Piss somebody off. Don't have the villains start as villains. Have there be a bad misunderstanding that causes the antagonists to pursue the main cast relentlessly. In other words, don't try to top the Goa'uld, Ori, or Wraith in terms of epicness. Go the other route: Maybe the villain's motivations so base, so simple, that you hate them for NOT being larger-than-life, but just the right size to be familiar and loathsome.
Of course, I haven't SEEN Universe yet... so, yeah...

I'm liking the volatility of the characters at eachothers throats /not/ being in harmony.
Panic, mistrust, blame throwing. Survival instincts. I actually hope they /don't/ fall into the SG formula of there being one big ongoing badguy, but it looks like, with the battle damage to the ship there likely will be. If it ends up being Replicators, I will be dissappointed but give it a chance.
I hope the conflicting personalities /don't/ mellow out into jovial banter.
I loved the first two shows. They worked for me. But what I saw in the 2 hour pilot of SGU impressed me as a new flavor, and I like it that way. And honestly, I wasn't thinking of BSG while watching it. Yes, I see the similarities, but SGU isn't so close a copy that it popped into my mind like a distraction. I never once paused and went 'Oh, that's BSG.'
Now, as for the comic... Nice.
Old school Teal'c though? More recognizable without hair and in Jaffa uniform I guess.

That's exactly what I think. All those people complaining are just pissed off cause SGU isn't like SG1 and Atlantis (which nobody ever said it would be, by the way ... ) but has its own distinct style. Well, it's darker and some other things like the spaceship-thingy point to BSG (which actually isn't a bad thing, really, I loved BSG well, apart from the last episode, but screw that ... ) or Voyager (never watched it, so I couldn't tell, and even if I had, I wouldn't care), but it's still definitely Stargate. Ohh, the crew isn't all nice and happy-clappy, but I actually think that's the point! They're not supposed to be! We finally see some human reactions to certain situations there. And concerning enemies, I think there will be plenty (judging by that last scene in Air pt. 3, especially), although maybe not one big bad guy like the Wraith or the Ori, but that's not really necessary anyway ... (people just seem to want more of the same old stuff all over again... but in the same sentence complain that SGU is nothing new. Well, decide, damn you. oO)
Lastly ... all those tards that go like "I hope SGU gets cancelled" (you can read that sentence in variations all over the internet ... -.-) should really think about what they say there ... if SGU gets cancelled, the whole franchise will die. No more SG1 or SGA movies, either. And I do hope for some more of those, too ...
Anyway. Just watched Episode 4, I still like it and I still will continue watching.

I caught the tail end of SGU and thought 'Sliders ripoff? o_O'
Methinks I need to watch the entire thing so I can properly mock.

pretty much sums up my thoughts from when I saw the trailer last week.
Nothing new.
Think I'll probably give this show a miss, I've liked what I've seen in the past of SG1 and was sort of into SGA near the end, but I think it's gone on too long now.

Never seen "The Last Starfighter", but the others were pretty obvious. Even when they first announced the show I was like "Oh, Star Trek Voyager with a Stargate." I'll give the show a couple more episodes before I decide "worth watching" or "crap".

I'm diggin' this comic. I haven't gotten a chance to see the premiere episode yet, but I don't have high hopes. It's good to hear that there are already cameos, I love all those old characters. Hopefully it will get better as time goes by because I really love the Star Gate and would be really pissed if the franchise died a horrible death with SG:universe. Oh well, only time will tell.
