Description Another Pokemon Ginjinka for the awesome project

Much in the way I came up with my Mewtwo, there are already MissingNo.s in the dex. All of them play off the idea of MissingNo. being a fragmented destructor of all it touches. Novel concept, I really liked it, funny and all. However, once again none of them gave any actual attention to the character of MissingNo as established by the show. Pokemon all have unique personalities, certain feeligns about them, that is what makes them great! And yet people in the dex seem to completely disregaurd that fact and just make bizarre anthropomorphs for the most part. Really fun to look at, but few of them really capture the beauty inherent in the designs of Pokemon.

Now, let me explain how that rant applies to something like 'M. What is MissingNo.? Everyone who played the original Red/Green/Blue knows it's a glitch. However, the reason for this is a mystery to most. It was the very first Pokemon ever designed and programmed into the game, tagged 'Missing Number' or shortened 'MISSINGNO.' to meet the character limit for names. This pokemon was ultimately whiped from the game, however fragments of it's programming remained scattered throughout the code. Through an obscure sequence of events you could run accross the remnants of this scrambled coding.

To pay tribute to this bizarre accident, the animators of the Pokemon gave us a peek at the physical design of MissingNo. as it was ogirnally programmed into the game. At the end of the very first episode of Pokemon, Ash looks into the sky and glimpses MissingNo for a moment, appearing as a beautiful golden bird traveling gracefully through the sky. If you go back and watch it, it might look familiar to you. That is because that design was later used for Ho-Oh.

So, in short, what is MissingNo.? A gold colour-swap of Ho-Oh.

*sigh* And that is exactly what this is. I used the existing design of a wonderful Ho-Oh ginjinka by (make sure to check it out here: [link] ) in a completely new, full colour painting. (The coloured version is here:[link] ) I then took the coloured version and added a gold colour scheme and shiny effects. In terms of actual drawing challenge, the weirdest thing was making the hands in realistic poses. Other than that, nothing all that new to me. I'm happy with the Clouds. As long as it presents the same grace and majesty that the peek at MissingNo in that first episode had, then I'm happy with it. But I'll shut up, because I talked a lot this time. >_>

Woah, I didn't know calling myself "someone that has some knowledge of programing" authomaticaly made myself become an expert... oh yeah, maybe in the land of fairies and magic it does. I not only hacked on pokemon games but other games for N64 and computer games... and did that enough to be completly confident about most of what i said. The pokemon you claim to be completed is not a completed pokemon. It's one of the many unused slots. There are 151 so there's 105 unused slots to mess around all you want testing moves for the pokemon that do exist... so since it's just for testing purpouse there's no need to create a picture for it so the pokemon is formed from pixels taken from backgrounds and craps. That pretty much explains why on pokemon G/S/C there's only 5 possible missingnos (cus there's only 5 unused values cuz there's 251 pokemon).

Your idea about missingno eventualy becoming Ho-Oh makes no sence at all. They didn't even think about Ho-Oh back in the days of R/B... it didn't even exist, yet. Why? Cuz R/B came way before the show was even made. They made R/B (notice they don't follow the show and the main character looks different than Ash) then they made the show then they made pokemon yellow (that does follow the show and doesn't have missingno... yeah, you can get it with gameshark but you'll get a kabutops skeleton). So basicaly R/B's missingno is not Ho-Oh cuz the first episode didn't exist. Also notice the show makes many mistakes compared to the game (pikachu being able to hurt geodude with electric attacks). I'm sure they based themselved very little on the game to make the show or else they wouldn't make such retarded mistakes.

Also about removing the unused pokemon. They can't! Why cuz the ammount of pokemon works with a 0-255 value. So when they program the pokemon they can at the same time test moves on the unused slots and all sort of things they have to test and since they can make sure there's no way to face this test subjects there's no need to delete them as that would take away time and won't be of any help when they can simply not add their values as possible values for the random battles. Like... how come on G/S/C you can't get Celebi normaly? On the japanese game you had to go through a chain of events that will at the end trigger Celebi's battle. They could delete the whole prosees but why do that? They can simply delete the first step in the chain of events and by doing that prevent you from activating it and battling Celebi.

I beleave they left missingno there because of the "complex" chain of events you have to go through in order to battle against it. The item cloning thing could very well be a way to test items. About Togepi and the others... they could have been made before the game because both the anime and the game were there already but in Ho-Oh's case the anime didn't even exist when missingno was created and missingno doesn't have a design... it has no shape or form so can't be compared with Ho-Oh in any way. They could very well create it on episode one planing to add him later on when they had a story planed for him but made Mewtwo be the cool pokemon instead and left Ho-Oh for G/S then changed his design to make Ho-Oh look more cool.

Excuse me for interupting this 'battle', but I'm afraid that you sound like either an intence computer nerd or someone who copy-pasted this from a Poke-programing site. You don't sound like a pokemon fan at all. Pokemon fans, as you should know by now, have enough imagination to become attatched to their faves and to the pokemon in their games. You, my friend, have no imagination. Think about it. The first episode of pokemon was SO far before G/S that the second generation wasn't even thought of yet. So it makes sence that Ho-oh could have been put in the R/B/Y games, then removed after intence debating, ect. over the fact that 1) 000 is not a number, and 2) wasn't needed in that particular game. Ever thought about that, Mr. Unimaginative?

villamar In reply to XxSweet-NightmarexX [2007-08-03 07:24:25 +0000 UTC]

Well, back in the old days of pokemon R/B/Y and G/S/C I used to hack a lot and trained knowing exactly what results I was gonna get before getting the exp. I didn't copy/paste anything. I read stuff then tried it myself also compared my experience on hacking other games with pokemon and went to conclusions. Yeah, I don't talk like a pokemon fan... I talk like a gamer. Your comment about Ho-Oh doesn't make any sence either. The Red and Blue games came way before the first episode of pokemon (the show was created because pokemon red and blue got very popular). So all planed pokemon for the first games were included on the first games. When they made the anime they already started working on a possible sequel and pokemon yellow was released. In the show you got to see some new pokemon that were later included on the new games Gold/Silver (Ho-Oh, Togepi, Marril). Game programing has nothing to do with imagination. It has to do with exact hexadecimal values and logic. Ho-Oh is not missingno cuz Ho-Oh wasn't created, yet. Ho-Oh was created when the show was created and the show was created way after R/B were created. Ever though about using an unused value (number 000) as a test subject for moves and items then not include that value in the random battles?

Wow, I never knew that. It makes sense, though, at least I think so.

Oh Missingno., you raped so many games. But you didn't rape mine, and I love ya for it. ^_^

I really like the concept and how it looks. A lot of the pokemon gijinka look...to put it bluntly...bad...but yours is really beautiful! Your hands are really well posed...hands are annoying...but they look great. And I luff the clouds.

Well, I'm not fully sure about the HoOh/MissingNO correlation...But everything else you said was right! The MissingNOs in the GjinkaDex are all crap, and so are most of the other pokemon in there--people either have awful ideas of what a pokemon would look like as a human or lack the artistic skills to pull it off. It nearly makes my eyes bleed each time pokedex updates another hundred and I have to sort through the dung for gems. However, finding well thought-out, well made gjinkas that capture what that pokemon is about are worth it--much like your gem here. Bravo!

I'm sorry to say you're absolutely right. Why are their sexy pikachus out there along side whimpy Mewtwos? C'mon, give a little thought to your entries. With all of mine, (Dialga, Mewtwo and now Ho-Oh) I tried my best to capture the character that was built into them, and hopefully I managed to do so. I'm gonna make sure I do something to honor the ones I really think are worth while... for instance my friend :iconkrothehetetic: are talking about doing a piece with my Dialga and her super awesome Palkia. >.>

I can't remember the exact name sequences for what levels and specie of Pokemon you saw on the coast, but search "Missingno" on google and one of the pages should explain it.
Or just click this link

LOVE your idea and concept. :3 You especially did a good job with his hands.

But, I didn't really understand... what makes you so sure it was Missingno. in that first episode? From what I figure the designers could have just made up Ho-Oh then and there, then just fleshed out the idea in the next generation since the first 151 had already been planned out.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

maXVolnutt In reply to RoseSpirit [2007-05-20 05:16:09 +0000 UTC]

Well, I'm not just talking out my butt here. It's just some very obscure Pokemon trivia. I learned about it roughly around the time Pokemon Yellow came out. I had a lot of different (reliable) sources back then but I believe I found out this for the first time in a pkmn ccg-dedicated magazine that had a column where they talked about obscure pokemon facts, things like Hitmonlee/chan being named after Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan respectively. The article had a somewhat scrambled image of the re-essembled sprite of M' that actually looked slightly more like Articuno than Ho-Oh eventually would.

Really, you're going to just have to believe me on this. I don't think the idea of them making up the golden bird for the show is all that plausable, considering the designers for the games and the show writers/animators tend to be in only loose communication. The show is a subsidiary of the games, with the acception of Pokemon Yellow.

If you will give me the benefit of the doubt, I'm glad you like the concept. ^^ The hands were actually pretty hard. I used an image of a dancer I plucked out of a magazine for reference. It's amazing the kind of junk you can find in an old National Geographic.

RoseSpirit In reply to maXVolnutt [2007-05-21 05:06:49 +0000 UTC]

Well, the Hitmonlee/chan thing is pretty obvious, but I'll go with the rest of it. I really don't have much of a reason to disbelieve you, after all. ^^

You really did a good job on the hands. The lines of the right are a little thick, but the left hand... *drools* So pretty.

Yaaaaay for MissingNo! I... actually never saw him, or any of the glitch, in my copy. But my game-buddy came across it when I was helping him with something (in return, he gave me a Mew and taught me how to clone... ^ ^;; eh-heh...) and we both thought it was crazy-awesome, and then freaked out when we saw the first few pictures of Ho-oh.

As for the actual picture, WHOOT SHINEY! I'm soooo flattered you would use me design for this. The colored version looks niiiifty, too. It's just... um... the right foot. It seems like the toes are on backwards, with the large talon where the smallest talon should be. And the chest plus the elongated eyes make it look too feminine.

But I still loooove it!
