Description Changed the title, though to be honest, the more I think about it, I might have been better off keeping 'The Perfect Girlfriend.' Ponder as you will.
So, just to get a few things out of the way:
I realize the shadows are off, but feel free to nag me anyway.
Yes, that's a rubber ducky.
Yes, she has rather long legs (I'm voting for artistic license).
The poster was supposed to be a five-minute quicky to fill up some space...I don't know what the hell happened. The ducky made me do it.

Alright then...time to get my bleary-eyed self to sleep. Ooh ooh, before I forget (see fall facedown asleep on my keyboard) , take a look at the closeups !

Ah, very cool piece. The idea of virtual sculpting reminds me of the game, The Longest Journey.

I really like the way he's positioned, one hand has a pen, while the other is using the shortcuts on the keyboard. I'm sure all wacom users recognize that position. It almost comes second nature. I think it's all the little details that really brings this piece to life.

Thank you! I find it kind of amusing that you mention the position he's sitting in, as I didn't even think about it at the time; but that is the way I'd be sitting if I had his toys, for exactly the reasons you mentioned. In any case, thank you again!

Not a chance! The last time I let the ducky give directions, I woke up halfway across the country in the alley behind a strip club with a new tattoo. From now on the ducky is strictly an alibi.

Truly told. I'm terrible at modeling, but a fair hand at sculpting. As soon as they figure out how to let me sculpt digitally, I'll be all over it.

This is a little old (God, I feel late on the uptake ) but I had to tell you how wonderful I think this is.

The girl is absolutely beautiful. I love her hair (always had a thing for a gentle fall of hair over the eye) and those long, long legs. She looks graceful, like a professional dancer, with such lovely muscle tone and shape.

I also love the little details you snuck in, in what appears to be a rather empty room: the books, the ducky, the coffee mug, the little pendant hanging from the book-end. It's like everything in life has been pushed into the corner, where the artist can compound his world and focus on creating his own perfect creature.

This completely deserves the favorites it's gotten, and many more as well. Excellent job. (aaah, jealousy)

Now, I'm off to go bury myself in the rest of your gallery XD I can't wait to see what else you've done.

No such thing as late when it comes to art...er...unless it's an overdue commission. In any case...thank you for the kind comments. It amazes me what people can find in my work some days. I'm an organic artist (meaning that I really don't think too much about what I'm painting...I just do it. Comes of no classical training I guess), so there are a lot of times that I don't realize the full impact of what I've done until it's over...or more to the point in this case, when someone else tells me I've done it. At times, what other people get out of it is completely different from what I put into it, but in this case, I think you've nailed it. I have a tendency to forget that the rest of the world exists when I'm working, and that seems to have translated across into this piece. In any case, thank you again for the comments (and the fav )

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

DragonChan In reply to MessmakersWorkshop [2007-04-19 19:11:52 +0000 UTC]

I understand what you mean by forgetting the world exists. I do that a lot myself - most of the time I start drawing right away when I wake up (Normally 8:30-9am on days off), sipping coffee and sketching. Around 4 or 5pm I realize I've been sitting in my chair the whole day and have completely forgotten to eat ^.^ By that time it's a complete mericle that I have the energy to go make myself a quick snack before continueing on.

I'm happy to know that my estimation of what was meant in this painting was so accurate. Usually I look a little too much into the things I see and tend to make a rambling ass out of myself

And on that note, I'll leave you be now. I'm looking forward to more of your work ^.^ Have a lovely afternoon.

MessmakersWorkshop In reply to DragonChan [2007-04-19 19:55:33 +0000 UTC]

Ah yes, the joys of forgetting to eat. It's how I keep my lovely stick figure. Again, thank you for the comments. I've been a bit slack lately in getting anything up on DA, but I'll make an effort to put more work up soon. Take care, and enjoy your afternoon as well.

Most gracious thanks. The room is a much less cluttered version of my own workspace, which seemed fitting at the time. Yes, I have a rubber ducky on my computer.

DaNoodleBox [2007-01-05 14:43:27 +0000 UTC]

Well we can't all have a perfect girlfriend if its supposed to be whatever we create. *mumbles about her muse being a crackwhore*

It is nice though, and sometimes I think you're right. I've thought about it in my past semester of college and the men there, and I was so much better off creating my own over trying to go out and find one. But it seems that the subject of this picture has done his share of picking and choosing and failing, judging by the wastebasket. Nicely done, overall. The guy with red bangs, is that you?

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

MessmakersWorkshop In reply to DaNoodleBox [2007-01-05 21:20:03 +0000 UTC]

I like it when people catch on to the subleties in a piece.
...I just had some big philosophical upheaval of words here, but I managed to hit ctrl+z out of habit when I misspelled something and it ate it. I suck. In any case, yes, the guy is me after a fashion. Sort of a 'me if.' If I could truly create the 'perfect' girlfriend, I'm not sure that I would. I'm actually a bit of a fan of imperfections. That's what makes people interesting, right?

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

DaNoodleBox In reply to MessmakersWorkshop [2007-01-06 07:00:45 +0000 UTC]

I totally agree. I wrote something on a perfect person once. It was a dull story, hence the purpose of writing it.

I do like your concept of 'if I could truly create the 'perfect' girlfriend, I'm not sure that i would.' its a very interesting concept.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

MessmakersWorkshop In reply to DaNoodleBox [2007-01-06 20:09:52 +0000 UTC]

I guess what it all really boils down to is the concept of 'perfection.' If a perfect person is boring, as in your story, then what's the point of achieving perfection? A while back I wrote this drippingly hopelessly romantic bit of prose in which I essentially said that true perfection is something that is attained through the joining of two flawed halves. Yeah, okay, so the girl broke up with me, but that wasn't the point. In any case, it's always seemed to me that there really is no such thing as a 'perfect' person, only perfect differences.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

DaNoodleBox In reply to MessmakersWorkshop [2007-01-07 22:11:48 +0000 UTC]

in this story my concept of perfect was the white-picket fence that people pretend they don't strive for today, yet still do. You know?
