Description
I figured that since I haven't put anything up in a while, I should at least throw up one of the commissioned pieces I'm working on (out of four, currently...sleep, I miss you).Still in the greyscale roughing stage, soon to be coloured and thouroughly detailed.

Looking good - a couple of points (although the colouring may clear these up) - what exactly is the light source? I'm not sure I see where it is coming from... is there a fire? The shadows are looking good though. I also noticed that her neck is perhaps a little too long. I shall await the next installment!

The lighting is going to be in the hearth behind her, as well as some ambient lighting from the room (most of that will show up with the colouring). I'll have to take another closer look at her neck now that you've mentioned it. Thanks for giving me another perspective on it.

Very lovely!
I love the whole "dark" hue of it, and the lighting of it is amazing.
Where are the strings, though? Are they going to be on your "thoroughly detailed" one?

Thank ya. I'm planning on doing the strings after I get through with a goodly chunk of the colour stage. I've still got to clean her up quite a bit and her hair hasn't gone anywhere past the sketch, so all of that is going in when I start with the heavy details (textures and the like as well). There's also a lot of scrollwork that's going onto the harp and the stool she's sitting on to bring everything into focus.

That's so awesome! I can't wait to see the colored version.. it actually reminds me of a scene from a book by Robin Hobb.

Which one was that? I'm sitting here finishing up Forest Mage. lol I've read the Farseer and Tawny man trilogies. Sad but definitely worth it.

Haven't read Forest Mage yet. There was a trilogy that came (timeline wise) between the Farseer and Tawny Man trilogies: The Liveship Traders. It's focussed around the Bingtown Traders and the Rain Wilds and gives the backstory for quite a few things that are talked about in the Tawny Man trilogy, as well as adding a whole new perspective to everything that happened in the Farseer set. It's a definite standalone trilogy on its own and it's written third-person instead of from Fitz's perspective (as he's not even in it), but...I'm rambling. I definitely suggest it.
...I hated the end of the Tawny Man trilogy...so anticlimactic and sad with the Fool and Fitz...I think I actually alternated between raving and coming close to getting all misty-eyed....not that I get emotional about books or anthing. 'Cause I'm a guy...and guys don't do that.......I'm shutting up now.

I was told that the Liveship Traders was crap and not to read it, but I'll probably get around to it after I finish this one. I didn't like the end of the Tawny Man trilogy just because I loved the Fool so much but I did think it was fitting.
As for misty-eyed, I wish I'd only gotten misty-eyed. I read both trilogies in a row and I cried so much that I think I might never need to cry again and by the time I was finished with Fools Fate I couldn't tell if I was crying because I happy or sad.... it was rather pathetic I must say.
I liked Forest Mage (30 pgs left I'm so excited! lol) but I thought that Shaman's Crossing and Forest Mage were both really slow in the beginning.. it took me a while to get into them.
But I've strayed far away from the fabulous art work... sorry.

Haha! No worries about straying; I love books and deviated conversations are usually more interesting than just comments. There were so many questions about the Fool that I still wanted answered, and it was killing me by the end. Then it was over. I was pissed off and proud of Robin Hobb for giving it the realistic ending instead of the 'everyone's happy' ending. Ah well. Great read.
The Liveship Traders is very different from the Farseer and Tawny Man trilogies, but in my humble opinion it's far from crap. Robin Hobb's character development and storytelling is superb, and the way that she manages to pull three trilogies together is incredible. I thought it was well worth the read.
I'll have to pick up Shaman's Crossing and Forest Mage next chance I get.

Have you read the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind? Those are absolutely brilliant. I think there is ten or elven so far and I couldn't put them down. Ender's game by Scott Orson Card was awesome as well but I haven't read the rest of the series. If you have any other books you'd recommend, let me know my reading list is running low.

Two of my favourite series! Card is great. If you haven't read his Homecoming Saga is great (first book is The Memory of Earth), those are a great read.
If you like incredibly detailed world/universe development and excellent characters, pick up anything by C.J. Cherryh.
Since you liked the Sword of Truth series, I'd definitely recommend the Coldfire trilogy by C.S. Friedman (The first book is Black Sun Rising), also, if you're into sci-fi, I'd go for The Madness Season by her as well.
The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny are a wonderful trip into modern fantasy (with a bit of mystery and a truly unique look at reality).
The Belgariad by David Eddings is a classic, fast-paced fantasy series.
I'm not usually a huge sci-fi reader but the Honor Harrington series by David Weber had me hooked in the first chapter (the characters were too great and everything was too believable to put them down).
The Symphony of Ages series (first book is Rhapsody) by Elizabeth Hayden is an amazing set of books.
The Death Gate Cycle by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman is probably still one of my favourite series of all time (7 books; read them in 4 days the first time through).
Melanie Rawn's EXILES series is great (though the third isn't out yet, and it's been killing me for about a year now).
If you can't tell, I'm a bit of an addict. I think I'll go ahead and end that list for now Of the above, I'd probably put the Death Gate Cycle, the Homecoming Saga and the Coldfire trilogy as the top three.
Alright...I'll stop. I think I'm embarrassing myself

cool beans. I'll check them out for sure. Might take a while but I can garuntee I'll read them eventually. (can you tell I have too much free time?) thanks!
side note: Its not fantasy or scifi, but the Earth Children series by Jean M. Auel is really good (clan of the cave bear is #1)
