Description
Dul’Sul - Territory Facts :
Tywyllwch –
· Their region houses the hub for which most trade and commerce between the territories takes place. This place is also the location of the capital and meeting place for The Council of Elements – doubles as the largest city in Dul’Sul. This is the only region were ALL kinds of dragons live and work together.
· The Tywyllwch are considered to be the purest, rarest, and most mysterious form of dragon-kind in all of Dul’Sul. As such, the only known Tywyllwch make up a family that has ruled over all the other territories for well over 3,000 years.
· Only 2 Tywyllwch are still in existence; The King and his offspring.
· It is said, that in the light of a crescent violet moon on the eve of the summer solstice, (an event that only happens once every 500 years) a Tywyllwch can supposedly harness abilities beyond that of any other dragon; telekinesis, instantaneous teleportation, and the ability to freeze time being a few… but no one knows for sure…because it’s a closely guarded secret in the royal family.
· Also, Tywyllwch are known for having the hottest fire which burns blue.
· Type of Tywyllwch: Only one type – Shadow.
Gwynt –
· Main distributor for minerals and precious metals.
· Often are considered ‘The Nomadic Ones’ due to so many of their species’ tendency to move around their territory so much.
· Protectors of Dul’Sul’s history and traditions.
· Their most famous for their religious customs and immaculate architecture.
· Considered to be the most peaceful and neutral of the species.
· Various Types of Gwynt include: Light and Air dragons.
Crimson –
· Main distributor for coal, sulfur and natural fuel.
· Known for its strong military power/influence.
· Dul’Sul’s primary hub for industry. (They do quite a bit of direct trading with the Clogfeini for supplies and such.)
· Many of Dul’Sul’s greatest inventors and engineers have hailed from this region.
· The Crimson are a proud, honorable society with deep ties to customs and tradition. Though, they are often stereotyped as being a bit ‘hot-headed’, they are better known for their courage, selflessness, and (a bit too much) of an eagerness to ‘fight first – ask questions later’.
· Various Types of Crimson include: Fire, Smoke, Electric, Acid and Magma dragons.
Saffir –
· Main distributor for fish and other marine-related food sources and fresh water distribution.
· Many Meddygaeth (Healers) come from the Saffir due to their abilities to manipulate water and use it to heal the sick and injured. (Iwhen translated from Welsh – ‘Meddygaeth’ means ‘Medicine’.)
· The Saffir are a logical, rational, scientific-minded society. With exceptions, they hold the search for knowledge and truth above all else.
· Various Types of Saffir include: Water, Swamp, Frost, Snow and Ice dragons.
Clogfeini –
· Main distributor for all things agricultural. (ex; Grass, wheat, corn, soybeans, cotton, fruits, vegetables, beef, dairy, mutton, foul etc.)
· Also a main distributor for lumber, iron, iron ore, salt, limestone, potash, gravel and clay.
· The Clogfeini’s territory is best known as “The Food Basket of Dul’Sul”. Without their exports, and skill in creating and maintaining a self-sufficient economy, most other territories would starve.
· The Clogfeini also boast a plethora of various dragons that specialize in everything from construction to mining, farming, recycling and environmental conservation. All in all, they are considered to be very ‘green’ dragons. But at the same time, they’re known for being a tough and hearty society with “thick hides, and thick skulls”.
· Various types of Clogfeini include: Forrest, Sand, Grass and Stone dragons.
Lesser Known Species
The Wyverns
· Considered by most other dragons as a ‘lesser-dragon’ because of their being significantly smaller in size on only having two back legs instead or four.
· Many Wyverns are associated/stereotyped as being ruthless, conniving, thieves and thugs.
· Pirating/Running Dul’Sul’s Black Market is thought to be their biggest venture.
· Known for being cowardly when cornered, but in great numbers they grow increasingly bold.
· Most are usually pretty small and lanky in stature and feature a mostly grey and/or brown colored hide – however brighter patches of color(s) trail their spines and other portions of their bodies giving each a distinct, unique look.
Pixie Dragons
· Often considered a sign of luck or good fortune.
· Believed to reside only in Y Goedwig Sychu (aka “The Whispering Forest”)
· Also called ‘Wisp Dragons’ because of their blue luminescing abilities.
· VERY RARE – Considered a myth by many.
· Usually very brightly colored and very small.
· Their wings resemble that more of an insect or bird. A Pixie dragon with Insect-like wings is called a “Ifni”; a pixie dragon with bird-like wings is called a ‘Swiylow’.
Dracolich
· Basically - Zombie dragons.
· Seeing the silhouette of one represented by something in nature is considered as a bad omen/sign of impending death.
· It is believed to be the result of what becomes of dragons who defy the Dragon’s Code of Ethics.
· Believed to reside only on Skull Island – near the frozen temple of Dim Dychwelyd (aka “The Temple of No Return”) as sentries to guard the secrets that reside within.
· This creature of the undead is considered a myth by many – used only to scare young dragons into behaving and minding their elders.
Other Factions
The Ras’acki
· Basically, The Ras’acki are a group of rebel dragons who believe that the Tywyllwch are frauds and have no special abilities. They also believe that the laws they’ve put in place to govern Dul’Sul should be torn down and the world should be torched. Their ideology – “Burn away the scourge that is the weak and feeble and let only the strong survive.”
· The Ras’acki is led by a smoke dragon who calls himself “Ka’rouwn”. At one time, he was Captain of the Guard for Counselor Baoleck of the Crimson – but after a series of decisions were made by the Council of Elements that the dragons of Dul’Sul should be allowed to choose their leaders freely, - and yet they could not choose their king? - well, to put in short, Ka’rouwn did not agree with the logic. A king should be chose just as any other…and a king should be chosen for his strength and ability to command over others. As a result, he went rouge – hell-bent on breaking down the so-called ‘democracy’ that he had grown to despise. And he believes now, that he would make a far better king…
· The Ras’acki is made up of dragons from all territories except the Gwynt. It even includes a few Wyverns who long to see an outcome where they can finally come out on top.
· It is rumored that their stronghold resides somewhere hidden in The Wastes.
**Dragons of Dul’Sul come in all shapes and size. Big, small, tall, short, lanky, buff, skinny or chunky…you can find almost any kind of dragon anywhere in any territory.
Though traditionally they all are quadrupeds and omnivores… some eat more meat and/or vegetation then others. Some Species have horns, some species have fins…some species have wings and some don’t….for example; most Crimson and Gwynt dragons have wings; most Saffir and Clogfeini don’t…but in either case or circumstance – there are plenty of exceptions to each race of dragon.
Significant Holidays/Celebrations
The Cherry Blossom Festival
· Often signifies the beginning of spring, and the beginning of a new year.
· Held in the city of Seetik located in the territory of Tywyllwch near the Neafalai Cherry Orchards.
· Typically the festival is held at night in the last light of the first spring day.
· Festival colors typically vary in shades of red, pink and magenta to commemorate the colors of the blossoms.
· This festival is often associated as being an annual celebration that promotes young males and/or females to find a suitable mate. It’s through festivities, dancing, and even wrestling with other males; that males show available females that they’d be a more-than-adequate sire for potential offspring.
The Summer Solstice
· Commemorates the summer season of the year.
· Held in Sulfur City in the land of Tân.
· Coincides with Tân’s annual “Maker’s Festival” – It’s a gathering of the best and brightest engineers, mechanics, inventors, blacksmiths, architects, merchants, mercantile and more to show off and feature things that are new and unique. Contests are even held to test the quality of creations.
The Lunar Festival
· This is a three night event during the first full-moon phase in summer.
· Held in the capital city of Canolfan in the courtyard of the royal palace.
· The celebration is considered to be one of the most important in dragon culture, especially to the Tywyllwch.
· It is tradition, that on the last night of the festival – families of dragons flock to The Temple of The Moon to give offerings to their departed loved ones who have made their journey from the land of the living to the heavens. (In dragon culture – a star is considered to be the soul, the last flame of a departed dragon…)
The Day of Dul’Sul (aka The Day of Black Sun)
· Happens only once every 100 years.
· Held in the capital city of Canolfan in the courtyard of the royal palace.
· It is a total Solar Eclipse.
· Marks the anniversary of when dragons first discovered Dul’Sul, settled it and escaped persecution from humanity.
· The festival lasts for 5 days; 2 days before the eclipse, on the actual eclipse and then for 2 days afterward.
The Festival of Lights
· Often signifies the end of summer and the beginning of autumn.
· Held in the city of Eyerwis located in the territory of Awyr on the island known as Dagger’s Tip.
· Typically the festival is started at dusk on the last night of summer.
· It is customary that as soon as the sun has gone down, thousands upon thousands of floating lanterns are released into the sky – each believed to hold the prayers, wishes and aspirations of the dragon who released it into the heavens for their ancestors to see.
The Great Harvest
· Considered to be the longest event as far as for festivals because of it lasting for an entire week.
· Held in the territory capital of Terraine in the land of Ddaear.
· Commemorates the autumn season of the year and celebrates the end of a year’s successful harvest.
· Signifies a time of year to be grateful for all that is good in one’s life – and to give thanks for the good fortune one has been given.
The Winter Solstice
· Commemorates the winter season of the year.
· Held in the city of Iceara in the land of Dŵr.
· The festivities include an event referred to as “The Blizzard Games” – They’re a series of games/events where dragons test their grit in the harsh lands of The North Tundra, to see who is the best of the best. Strength, speed, endurance, intelligence, resolve… it’s all tested to see who is the superior, best-rounded athlete(s) among all dragon kind. (**Little known fact: The competition between opposite elemental dragons if FIERCE!)
· The festival also hosts a wide array of culinary treats from multiple territories – but especially so from the Saffir since the days surrounding the winter solstice coincide with the best time of year to harvest the Ishani Ice Razor Crab – a sweet, fatty, decadent crustacean with succulent, rich meat. It’s a staple of the festival.
o **Note: (There’s even an event in The Blizzard Games called ‘The Razor Run’; it requires participants to catch as many of these delicious but devious creatures in an allotted amount of time – participants are only allowed to use their mouths to catch them. Doing this forces the participant to test their coordination as well as force them to practice placidity under pressure. The crab’s spinal/top shell is tough, but the belly is soft. Bite too hard, and you’ll kill the crab letting the meat spoil before it can be prepared properly (dead crabs count against you in the final scoring of the game) – not hard enough and you could drop it out of your mouth or have it knocked out by an opponent and stolen – thus giving them the point.)
