So yeah. I do frequent the interwebs, and a few people have challenged my lineup for which classes I picked for which ponies. I decided to do these as a sort of rebuttle.FLUTTERMEDIC PROBLEMS:
Okay, one thing any good Medic knows is this; your job is to run around, healing people to build up an uber charge, in the thick of battle. You only run away when you are outgunned; an Engineer who has wandered away from his nest, an exposed sniper, a spy... enemies like this you can probably take. You have weapons; when you have them, logic notes that it is intended you use them, if sparingly. The Ubercharge is an important factor of the Medic - the longer you keep your allies alive, the more they can kill. Kritzkrieg is particularly designed to aid in the killing part of that equation.
The common argument FOR Fluttermedic is 'Fluttershy wouldn't hurt anypony.' My response is that if she wouldn't, she probably wouldn't be in these war games. If Fluttershy was to live up to the projected idea people have for her, she would most likely spend her entire time in the base, wasting uber charges to aid in escape, only healing team mates who manage to run away from the fight and probably would have an easier time just reaching the locker.
Basically, she'd be that medic you votekick for being a newb.
Medics, if played right, are tools of destruction as much as healing.

You'd have to admit, Fluttershy would do one hell of an evil laugh just like the Medic did.

Imagine Fluttershy cutting people with a bonesaw or sticking them with needles.Β Doesn't kill outright.Β Just hurts like bloody hell.
There is no escaping destruction or humiliation.Β Flutters, in my mind, would be the most likely to be far away from combat.Β Besides, the Medic is the freakin' amazingness-maker-happener.Β Fluttershy is, no offense to her fans, among the least amazing of the Mane 6.

My only problem with that is that the Spy is a backstabbing class.Β While killing maybe an unavoidable element for the mercs, backstabbing seems a tad too much for Fluttershy.Β At least with sniping, headshots could be considered something of a mercy.
That aside, Spy was the second place idea I had for Flutters - that or Engineer (who can avoid combat; she only lost out cause Pinkie fit the class more).

my good man, just because fluttershy is meek doesn't mean she won't fight like hell to defend her friends if they need it.Β
Plus, how exactly does twilight have medical knowledge? the closest thing we've seen her do to healing is heal discord's corruption in s2e2. in compareison, we've actually seen fluttershy heal her animal friends.

You miss the point.
The point is that a lot of people make her Medic CLAIMING she wouldn't hurt anypony and that she's shy.Β I was countering that argument.
How does FLUTTERSHY have medical knowledge? We've seen Twilight ready to assist a tent filled with sick ponies, so we can assume she knows SOMETHING.Β We saw Fluttershy give pills to a phoenix and tell a mouse what to do with a broken leg, which at best says she has vet experience.Β Plus, Fluttershy is more of the 'living with animals in trees and woods' type than the 'surrounded by chemicals and performing mad experiments on allies' type.
In my mind, best Medics go in this order, from best to worst; Twilight, Zecora, Dr. Stable, Nurse Redheart, Pinkie Pie, then Fluttershy.
Fluttershy makes a better engi than Medic - Dispenser allows for healing, can be aggressive or defensive, doesn't HAVE to get into the fight.

Can you picture Fluttershy exploding someone's heart in an experiment?
How about cutting out an animal's heart to use in such an experiment?
How about preserving Rarity's head in a fridge?
What about running around in the middle of a hail of gunfire? And I don't mean just sometimes, I mean ALL the time (a good Medic is always in the battlefield).

If killing is the problem then why is she even playing this game? Your argument here counteracts her being a sniper as well. Every class has to kill or be involved in killing. It's the whole game.Β
π: 0 β©: 2
spare1111 In reply to Odoga [2013-10-04 05:03:30 +0000 UTC]
A good medic has to be able to charge right into the fight with the other classes, and keep them alive while keeping themselves from being killed. That's why Metal is saying Fluttershy doesn't make a good medic. The snipers is the only classes that really needs to completely avoid combat, as even a spy with a good aim and a revolver is still too deadly a fight.

Metal-Kitty In reply to spare1111 [2013-10-04 05:51:45 +0000 UTC]
He thinks I'm saying that Fluttershy WOULDN'T fight.Β Logically speaking? Perhaps not.Β What he fails to notice is I am saying that that argument doesn't work in a game where everyone fights to some extent.
π: 0 β©: 0
Metal-Kitty In reply to Odoga [2013-10-03 23:39:33 +0000 UTC]
Not really.Β My argument isn't that she shouldn't be in the game - what I'm saying is the argument she should be Medic because she wouldn't hurt anyone is a flawed one.Β I don't think ANY of them would really be mercenaries; there are certain liberties to be taken, for sure.
π: 0 β©: 1
Odoga In reply to Metal-Kitty [2013-10-13 02:58:44 +0000 UTC]
Okay well I can still see her picking that class as being the one that kills the least. Sure they all have to kill, but at the point she is worried about others getting killed even if it wasn't directly by her hoof. This is where I find the flaw in your argument (at least in the comic). You say there are certain liberties to be taken, and yet you do take those for your sniper argument and not for the medic one. Either she is okay enough with killing (to an extent) to play the game or she isn't. If she is okay with it then I feel that she would trend more in the direction of aiding the team as a medic, or perhaps even engi so that the killing is at lest indirect most of the time. But a sniper, whos only job is to kill? The justification is that she is weaker and therefore would not want to fight directly, but there are several classes you can say that about and that are more for defense than anything else and I think there are good reasons why they would be better than sniper.Β
π: 0 β©: 1
Metal-Kitty In reply to Odoga [2013-10-13 09:20:41 +0000 UTC]
You seem to assume... I have NO idea what you're assuming.Β Liberties ARE taken - they HAVE to be, because I somehow doubt ANY of the ponies in these lineups would be willing to kill other ponies; let alone ponies that look suspiciously familair.Β If I was going to NOT take liberties, then NOPONY would be anything *BUT* the Medic and the Engineer.
The problem with Fluttershy playing the Medic is that the Medic gets in the thick of things - he is CONSTANTLY exposed to danger if he is doing his job right.Β He pops uber charges and runs around getting shot at (cause you ALWAYS aim for the Medic).Β Mixing that with the pressure that comes with being the sole healing class... I don't think Fluttershy could handle that kind of pressure.Β She'd be more likely to be an engineer than a Medic for the sole fact that the Engineer can stay in the safety of his base and do the healing part of the Medic's job and only worry when pressure is being applied.Β The only reason she didn't get THAT class is because I couldn't negotiate it with her character.
No, the justification for Sniper is not his weakness - it's his aversion to battle, first off.Β The Sniper's weakness does play into it, but the core of the match is that if he's smart, he stays behind the actual fighting, only peaking out just enough to shoot someone.Β People like to ignore Fluttershy's defining characteristic - her shyness - when picking the Medic class. You forget that the Sniper *DOES* have support capabilities, even if minor.Β The Jarate allows them to make enemies weak to mini crits, as well as allowing them to put out burning allies. Their secondary items tend to focus more on protecting them or others than they do on killing - jarate, shields, Cozy Camper.
The Medic is something of an assertive class.Β They draw attention to themselves by merely their very presence.Β And that's ignoring the more 'taste'-based themes (mad scientist doctor who experiments on his team mates and considers healing to be a side effect of his real experiments) - Flutters just doesn't fit the TF2 Medic's nature.

Medic is one true Medieval Mode master race. The ability to fight both long and short range, healing and personal regeneration, and the increased maneuverability over most classes makes them a deadly fighter.
