aw, I wasted my entire yesterday working on this... for 'cuz she likes Umi! X3Heavily referenced, from some crystals CLAMP drew and this: [link]
Well, uhm, wow. I waned to draw her for so long and I finally did it. I'd put it in Mixed Media but since dA is evil and won't let us categorize the pics we put in mixed media, I can't... ;_; I used mostly markers, smudged white ink for the glowy stuff and used it for the dots (which I did way too many of and I hate them now), and watercolors for the BG. Afterwards my hands made me look like I murdered a smurf... XD my fingers were all blue!
The crystals were so hard... I went out and bought 2 new copics (which I havent used in a while) to do them! Umi's outfit was hard too! So much gold and stuff!
Well, i think this is so far my best attempt at traditional medias. I scanned it and adjusted everything and touched it up to make it look cooler. ^^ My dad said that it looked really cold and he wanted to put on a sweatshirt when he saw it. ^^ yay, my art has emotion! XDDDD The point of this one isn't necessarily a fanart, but well, about the atual art and the work I put into it because I sorta like it. XDDD yay! Comments and faves much appreciated, I worked much harder on this than I did on Hikaru!
Materials Used: Sepia Micron 05, watercolor brush markers, Copics, white ink, watercolor (for the blue BG)
Time Taken: whoa. About 2 hours tops.

Great job. You did that with markers...I know I couldn't do it that well.
Her face looks a bit akward. I think you need to round out the left side of her face, make it a little more circular. Right now, it looks a little too small for her body. I also think you could probably have cut down on the white splotch sparkles the further away from her you got. The ones on her are perfect, and the shading is lovely.
While it does need a little tweeking to be perfect, you did a great job.

lol, you should've seen me when I was 12 and drew absolute crap in 20 minutes. I'm so glad I broke out of that stage.
And well, I've been working a lot slower than I did last year, and the more time and concentration you spend on a piece the more detailed it becomes and the less mistakes you make. So be glad you're slower than me. XD

You can really do a number on someones eyes with all the details! I really enjoy looking for every little thing you have made on this piece. CLAMP really emphisizes details. Awesome coloring. Your markering and water color skills are out of this world.

Don't have time to read all the comments, so forgive me if I repeat critiques you've already gotten. First off, let me say you did a beautiful job with the media. You're clearly very talented at coloring. However, your anatomy could use some work. A lot of anime artists get stuck looking at only anime art, which is detrimental to their evolution. Take some time to draw from photographic reference or, even better, from life. It'll help you learn how to sculpt the body in your mind rather than just get into a habit of mimicking your favorite artists. The most glaring errors are in the arms and eyes. The arms look more like rubber tubes without a proper elbow and the eyes are much too far apart. Next time, use a photo to reference your pose and I'm sure you'll see improvement. Good job though!

Another amazing CG, but if you'll notice the left side of her face is a straight line.. It needs a little more curve to it, other than that, it's perfevt. You're amazing at colouring.

Now now, dont shoot yourslef for drawing manga/anime style. Thats how alot of traditional artists seem to start off these days. This is my fav. peice from the thread you posted, so i thought i might as well comment. I think the color scheme is perfect, very saturated and contrast well one against another. (knowing that blue and orange are on opposite sides of the color wheel) The style is really good and i love the "flowing-ness" of it... but i think the lineart could use some work (technical wise) you might want to look into that. On the other hand, the coloring job is impecable... i could never manage to color like that. Good Job!

The textures are really magnificent 
If may critic, I believe there's too much orange. Considering that blue & orange are complementary colors, it's a bit too complex too have too much. But the shines & tones make up for it though.

Well, this is well drawn, you did a great job on the shading. The clothes especially were handled very well. The skin is a little "blah" but overall it's good.
I don't know how well you've looked at anatomy but the colored part of the eye should always be a perfect circle. I realize that this look is often seen with anime but I never really support the generalization or de-humanzing of the eye.
The way she's holding the sword also seems a little wrong. One forearm looks drastically longer than the other and foreshortening, etc. doesn't work in your favor here. The way the hand is drawn, while very nice, doesn't make it look like she has any sort of good grip on the sword. I get more the impression that she is holding it only very lightly and I can't imagine that a sword is all that light.
Overall though I consider these pretty minor issues to the image as a whole. It still looks very nice.
