Description ------ 3D character rendering in Cinema4D (mesh here: [link] ) ------

WOW! Thank you for this DD! I feel honored.

Alexander is ready to cast his first magic spell (on you!).

Thank you all for your great feedback and suggestions.
This helped a lot getting Alexander this realistic!

Rendered in Maxon Cinema4D R11.5 using GI and a very complex light- and reflection-system of my own. Alexander is M4 based with mayor improvements on the textures.
I am using my own skin shader and my own shader extensions for the eyes. The mesh is hypersmoothed and optimized. The curtain is modeled using hypernurbs to.

The spell is created using light sources combined with fractal shaders... My first own magic spell!

I hope you all like him. His evolution can be seen here:

If you would like to peep the 3d mesh under Alexanders skin, you can do that here:

Thanks again for your great support!

Absolutely STUNNING work. When I first saw it, I was sure that it was a photo manipulation. This is purely amazing, you have great skills.

I like how he turned out, the pose is much better than in the draft and his face is great and definitely "standard" looking. Now, I'm looking forward to the more complex scenes with this character.

ceruleanvii In reply to ??? [2009-12-13 17:58:19 +0000 UTC]

since this seems to be your most current render, I'll comment on this one...

I thing the lighting, shading, texture work on him are all looking great! Body hair looks realistic, skintones are very lifelike, lighting works well with environment and effects.

The model itself - is he pre-made or did you make him yourself? Overall he's good but there is a narrowing, a pinching that occurs where his arm meet the body in the underarm area - it's like that deltoid over the pectoral muscle area isn't meaty enough. I've seen this before with other 3D models and it's usually a weighting issue with the rig. Otherwise musculature is right on.

I'd love to see him in a more classic magical environment, some kind of gothic castle maybe, or maybe outside on a darkened hill in moonlight. The curtain makes me feel like I'm watching a magic show in Vegas (a kinky naked magic show, yes )- and I'd like to see something with a little more seriousness. But that's me.

Overall, great rendering work, very nice!

Thanks for your detailed feedback!

The mesh is on M4 (Poser) based.
You seem to have deep anatomic knowlege!
I did some medical studies some years ago to. Bone and muscle systems in M4 are not realy perfect. You are abolutely right at this point.

I have just finished the improvements on mesh, lighting and texture shaders and wanted a "final" version with his face and body. So I modeled a curtain and did the render.

Clothes, environment and all the details are still missing. A gothic castle is a nice idea.
At the moment I am working on his clothes and an environment that fits the story and the character...

Thanks again for your detailed and professional feedback!

The result was it all worth!
But Alexander is only the improved human figure. I will do some complex scenes with this figure in the near future. I will continue my work on "The Woodgod" [link] . Some magic images are on the way. Watch my profile if you want!

Tasharene In reply to ??? [2009-12-12 22:02:22 +0000 UTC]

Well, my dear, he is deliciously realistic. It shows that you put a lot of effort in textures and shading - so much that it makes the figure near photo-realistic. The morphing is also well done, all the muscles are well defined, but not overdone; and face is handsome without being too cliche. As for other aspects, I love the lighting and the glowing spell: one of my favorite colors and beautiful effect. On the whole - a really top notch work.

Chromattix In reply to ??? [2009-12-08 08:28:01 +0000 UTC]

Cool! this is rendered in Cinema 4D? very realistic, I'm used to seeing stuff like this rendered in poser but you don't come across much realistic character art in other programs (C4D is only one of two 3D programs I even know how to use, and only mildy well so I was easily impressed by this as I can draw people but can't model them )

Hmm, maybe the lighting can be a bit more dramatic, he looks like he was photographed in a studio with the bright lighting, maybe dim that main white light down and focus more on adding more blue light illuminating him from his fingertip, suggesting that's a powerful light source and carrying out the cool blue mood a bit more I really can't critique the man himself though since that's pretty good by my standards

mike-reiss In reply to Chromattix [2009-12-08 08:33:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!
You are right. The blue light could be more intens and the ambient light a little lower. Great advice! Thanks...

This turned out really great - the skin and hair texture looks very convincing. My only suggestion would be, maybe... add more colour to parts of his face (and hands, if they were showing more) - not BLUSH persay, but just bits of different shades that people always seem to have in their faces. Very difficult for me, but with what you've done so far, I don't think it's out of your reach

Awesome spell effect, by the way. Looks awesome.
