Well, looks like i finally decided to finish my fur-tutorial. There might still be typos around, i'm rather tired right now.When I draw fur i rarely stick to only one tecnique and the style varies from picture to picture, but I tried to give some insight in my way of drawing fur with this tutorial.
This may or may not be helpful, but at least it's done now.

I was trying this fur out (just on a circle to see how it works, thank goodness). And my GIMP shut down. I lost all of my hard work! *sobs* oh well, I guess its good practice. And maybe that was the computers way of telling me to get to bed already. My eyes hurt.
Anyways, lovely tutorial. It is a great way of making fur.

for the extra thick fur, how would i go about creating the fur if the color of it is black?

Simple. Don't make it pure black, but a dark gray, and good highlights
