Description
Guenevere at Camelot. She is on her way out to the castle gardens. She's glancing back at a tapestry of Arthur pulling the sword from the stone. She holds a bouquet of white and red flowers. Which are reflected in the Arthur tapestry, and red flowers in the garden. She fondles one white flower wistfully as she pauses. Her dress is decorated with knotwork hearts, both upright and reversed. Her belt has a spiral design. Everything together symbolizes how she is torn between loyalty and desire. There is a shadowy figure on a horse in the background.
I've uploaded a close up of her face in my Scraps section. Cuz I KNOW someone will ask.

What a beautiful representation! Her face is so wistful, and I love the coloring. Is it colored pencil?

It's colored pencil, watercolors, and just a bit of white ink to make it "glow".

Its amazing, I will have Arthur,he's gorgeous, I have sort of been where Guinivere is at though, barren and with forbidden love. I think it's a beautiful image that says alot.

Beautiful image love the vast details and touches.
I always feel in two minds about Guenevere a part of miss dislikes her for not loving Arthur who I loved her so much, but then a part of me thinks that heart wants what it wants and she will always love Lancelot.

The mere detail and the awesome load of thoughts that went into this are stunning. It is apparent how you paid attention to even the tiniest part of the image and that dedication makes it into an awesome and intriguing piece of work.

Wow, the detail in this is amazing! I love how the coloring of her is so warm compared to the cool greens and blues of the background. It really makes her catch your eye. Beautiful work!!

I had a HUGE problem trying to figure out what color to paint her. I usually let the background colors dictate what the figure is wearing, but I had a lot of leeway with this. But it was frustrating. White's not appropriate. Blue isn't either. Green would be, but she'd be lost in the background. Red's to blatant. Then I started messing about with a golden copper, just letting the colors do what they wanted, and the red just fell in there anyway. I guess it wasn't too overbearing after all.
Okay, I make myself sound really bad here. I usually know the general color direction and color theory involved in a piece, but I always leave something "up to the paint". Her dress was it in this one. Which was a foolish thing to do, considering it's a big part of the piece, but...well...that's how it happened.

The detail is amazing and the picture is very beautiful. Your works are truelly amazing. The tapestry paterns, the flowers around the arch way the whole background is so beautiful and just as captivting as the queen herself. You do create a wonderful scene and tell a beautiful story within your pictures

What a beautiful image, Michelle!
I love the colors that you incorporate into your compositions, this one being no exception. The warm colors of her dress and cloak really pop against the cool background, but you have tied it all togeather with the roses.
What I particularly like about this piece, besides the clothing design, is the way that the viewer can look past the central character, through the archway, and out into the woods. And of course, the hair! Oh, and the tapestry, too, lol!!
Remind me to stay away from knotwork. I'm looking forward to what you will be posting next!

Ha! As detail oriented as you are in your art, I can't imagine that you'd have that tough a time with knotwork. It's really fun once you get the hang of it. It's just that creating your own designs can be fun and imminently frustrating at the same time.
Man, the tapestry in this piece really kicked my butt. It had to be brightly colored enough to look like a tapestry, but dark and faded enough to fall into the background and be "shadowed" both for composition and symbolic reasons. Drove me nuts, I swear. I'd also done a lot of the coloring in little lines to make it look woven, but a lot of that detail got lost through the several layers of color and shadow. Oh well.

Wonderful wonderful
And the white and red roses are symbolic too - isn't a red rose a symbol of desire and a white rose a symbol of purity and faithfulness - so yes, white roses for Arthur and red roses framing the garden and the shadow figure beyond

MPFitzpatrick In reply to elegaer [2005-08-01 21:09:02 +0000 UTC]
Yep! That's exactly the symbolism that I was going for. And it's also telling, that Arthur's tapestry is in shadow and kind of faded, and the figure on the horse is in bright sunlight. It shows which is winning over Guinevere. I've tried to capture a moment from her perspective, free of anyone's moral judgement, and just show a woman whose heart is torn.
