This has been the culmination of a project months in the making! (Though it's also a project that should've been finished a months ago.
)As is mentioned in the title this is part 1 of a 2 part story.
-I hesitate to mention this but, for those offering critique I must make a clarification; This has been a project months in the making. I'm not asking you to hold back or pull punches, rather just be aware that my art has improved since I originally sketched this thing out. Please take a look at one or two of my other recent pictures before you tailor your advice based on this picture alone.

It is a crying shame that we will never see this in-show because supposedly "little girls can't handle that". I think that some of life's greatest lessons, especially in friendship, coming during the hardest of times.

I wholeheartedly agree. Even cartoons like this shouldn't have to be so damn colorful and happy all the time and it's not like kids are never going to find out about the hard, sad truth of life. Network executives using excuses like "little girls can't handle that" are really low and shameful because they hide the truth to keep kids happy, ignorant and unaware of the hardships of life. Even funny family oriented sitcoms like Fresh Prince of Bel-air, Family Matters and Full House all had pretty serious episodes despite their lightheartedness. Television today is awful because most if not all shows today have absolutely no meaning in them and for good shows like this one, network execs pull crap like "too sad for kids" in their decisions to cover up what could potentially be great concepts for future episodes. There's so much anal going on about what should be allowed and what should not in television today (at least in America) that it's hampering the expression and creativity of cartoonists. This show has so much more potential and I really would not like to see it end without its potential being reached because of some anal network executives, as long as what is pitched for future episodes and concepts aren't like those grimdark fanfics and shit like that, because that's not meaningful; that's just stupid. Okay, that's enough rant. I think it's clear as to what I'm getting at. But I'm relieved to know that I'm not the only one who thinks so.
With all of that said, I really wish that the original concept of the Apple parents having passed away didn't get dropped. It would make for profound episodes in a good cartoon about life lessons and friendship.
I really liked a lot of Faust's original concepts, but it's a damn shame most of them she shared with us on her dA account got scrapped. Her original concept for Princess Celestia was for her to be Queen Celestia but according to her, the network execs associated all cartoon queens to be evil because Disney made them that way. That is the definition of anal right there. Okay, there I go ranting again. I digress, forget this paragraph.

After the season finale, I'm thinkin that they ain't worried about scaring little girls. (I mean, come on! TS was engulfed in green hellfire erupting from the ground!) Don't hold out on them yet! We may get some solid (or sad) episodes in the next few season!

But then again the same could be said for Fluttershy, the only ''other'' pony whos parents haven't been seen.
Ya know it really bugs me, why didn't Fluttershy's parents come looking for her after she fell down towards the ground? Unless...

You artists and your tendency to post multi-parters that deal with heavy subjects before a satisfying conclusion is finished. This is a pretty great comic, I was reading all of it in the characters voices and felt immersed. There aren't many single comics and can immerse me very easily. Well done
