Description My first finished piece for quite a while It's part of an emerging project which I'm still developing, about a parrallel world which diverges over the first half of the 19th century.
The Earth of the Gateways timeline is more advanced than our own, with widely developed colonies across the solar system by the dawn of the new millenium. This advancement is down to the development of the Gateway system itself; akin to the Stargates, Gateways have been built across Earth and on numerous other worlds in the solar system, allowing industry, commerce, and colonisation to flourish.

Not all the boundries and situation of this world are tied down just yet, but feel free to ask questions, as always, and I'll try to answer and build the world to the best of my abilities

I like this but I have one question. Why is New Mexico in the CSA and Arizona in the USA??

Nice alternate History map.

Germany having American Colonies!? I never thought I'd see that...

I see that now there are USA, CSA and FCA That's certainly an interesting development.

And then we have Brazil, the- wait, THIRD Republic? Those guys were certainly busy weren't they?

Thanks

I imagined that a weaker Mexico might just make a stronger FCA I had a timeline of Brazil's revolutions and restorations and one point, but alas it died with the old computer...

Wow! These are one of the few maps on Deviantart that I actually love! The ones that look simple and recognizable, both in visuals and reference. I even love the scenario this is based on (the result of the aftermath of the U.S. civil war right?), and also what I found intresting was the German Alaska, like how did that happen? Besides that, I really like the concept behind this! I've made an ATL map similar to this scenario, only it's the result of the French winning the seven years war. The link is right here: canadakid97.deviantart.com/art… Check it out if you have the time too!

From what map? I realize that you took the time to trace this all out in GIMP or what have you, I just can't find an adequate map of the western hemisphere to do my own outline.

Neethis In reply to YNot1989 [2011-09-18 15:19:50 +0000 UTC]

Ah I see, sorry it's from two seperate maps, one of North Am. and one of South Am. which I put together in GIMP. I dont know the exact websites I got them from; I just used google images lol. Takes a bit of resizing and skewing to get the two to line up properly, but most maps of both north and south am. show at least Panama, where you can line them up well...

Neethis In reply to YNot1989 [2011-09-18 19:34:51 +0000 UTC]

I usually cobble together a few different historical maps off Wikicommons showing the borders that I want to use, or just do it by eye

OldKingKohler [2011-06-15 15:43:42 +0000 UTC]

At times the Prussians considered or where offered the chance of taking all of Denmark, but they didn't speak German. Plus the islands might have declared independence, been seized by the British, or rejoined Norway. How their are indepdnedt Carribean islands and how they consider those lands as "German" instead of Prussian suggests a few many changes in this timeline. Obviously. May I ask if the Germans have the Spanish, Danish, and British Virgin Islands?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Neethis In reply to OldKingKohler [2011-06-15 16:20:03 +0000 UTC]

This timeline is being retroacted, so don't consider anything shown on this map as canon at the moment at any rate, the Germany of this timeline hold Denmark and has made a protectorate/vassal out of Norway. There is no "Prussia" as such by this time (this map is supposed to represent the modern day) but the resultant Germany of this world is far more Prussian leaning, with Bavaria having retained independance for a long time after the unification of Germany. I havn't shown the spanish Virgin islands in this map, but Spain itself is a part which i'm working on, this i'm not sure who owns them yet lol

Well, Germany must have been super lucky to manage getting both Greenland AND Scandinavia. Was there any point of divergence?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Neethis In reply to mdc01957 [2011-02-05 15:03:51 +0000 UTC]

Germany doesn't have all Scandinavia, just Denmark and Iceland
Divergence is a tricky issue, as with most of my timelines lol. There's a lot of points of issue, notably the victory of the CSA and the invention of the Gate technology, but I've got no worked out timeline.

It does now It belonged to Russia still up til the Great War (not entirely analogous with our own WW1), and was ceded to Germany as repatriation.

What's that thin state between Virginia and Tennessee labelled 'Fr.'?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Neethis In reply to htilden42 [2011-01-03 17:12:42 +0000 UTC]

Franklin One of the reformations initiated by the Confederacy after victory in the Civil War was the right for citizens and counties to secede from their respective states in order to form new states to better represent them. As well as historical Franklin ( [link] ) breaking away from Tennessee, Florida divided into East and West, and Texas was divided into three new states; Texas, Bell, and Price (the latter two named after two of the original surveyors of Texas before it's admission to the Union)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

htilden42 In reply to Neethis [2011-01-04 02:42:32 +0000 UTC]

Ah, ok.

That reform could also serve to over-represent certain areas of the country in the Senate, if they still got 2 representatives per state

Neethis In reply to htilden42 [2011-01-04 17:52:31 +0000 UTC]

where did the name Orinoco come from?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Neethis In reply to WhippetWild [2011-01-03 17:06:29 +0000 UTC]

[link]

Orinoco is the river that flows through the area, as well as the old name of the province when it was ruled by Spain. It gained it's independance from Britain in the early 19th century, before which it had been a dependant nation cut from Venezuela during a war which had initially broken out over the status of British Guyana, which Venezuela had laid a claim to

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Neethis In reply to bubba145 [2011-01-03 12:18:43 +0000 UTC]

Why so? In the early days they did try to bargin with Spain for Cuba and a few other islands, but without success. They WERE more succesful in negotiations with Mexico, of course

bubba145 In reply to Neethis [2011-01-03 15:07:16 +0000 UTC]

okay then just saying military could have done it.

Neethis In reply to bubba145 [2011-01-03 17:01:29 +0000 UTC]

True But the Confed's wanted to keep good relations with European powers; an assault in the Caribbean would've made an enemy of Spain, and perhaps given Britain and France a reason to doubt their support of the newly independant Confederacy.

Hey, this is a bountiful and peaceful German Republic The wars were settled decades ago, and the world's been in a general state of peace under the Stockholm Congress (a sort of parrallel UN) for a long time. At any rate, with the technology of this timeline strategic advantage sort of goes out the window, when you can just send your troops directly to your enemies capital through a wormhole...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

gabe-seers In reply to Neethis [2011-01-03 01:37:28 +0000 UTC]

Sounds interesting! Is the timeline posted here? Or on alternate history.com?

And the wormhole device sounds like it could be used for a lot of mischief ;3

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Neethis In reply to gabe-seers [2011-01-03 12:17:38 +0000 UTC]

Neither, yet I'm working on other maps in this series, and I'm thinking about doing a run down of technologies unique to this timeline; the gateways are only one of the developments where they're ahead of us

gabe-seers In reply to Neethis [2011-01-04 06:25:03 +0000 UTC]

Technologies? Ooh, cool! If you want some artworks on those, I'd love to provide those too! (That is, if you don't mind of course...I'm no concept artist )
