Description
The map of the League of Allied Nations, from the current timeline that's forced its way in from the starter of a simple flagLike the last map, this shows the state of the world shortly before the outbreak of 2nd Arctic War, with the Founding Member Council (similar to the UN Security Council) consisting of;
the United States of America
the Commonwealth of Australia
the West German Republic
the Kingdom of Canada
the Empire of Japan, and
the Empire of Brazil
The LoAN is a direct descendant of the League of Nations, a collective of nations more loosely allied than the ComCom, promoting the ideals of capitalism and democracy.
The monarchies of both Britain and Portugal fled to Canada and Brazil respectively when their nations were overun by the Evil Communism

Hah, perhaps an oversight on my part... then again, I couldn't think of anything interesting to do with the French flag, if I'd included them

If it makes you feel any better, Canada put up a valiant fight
I'm going with the idea that communism took hold in Britain (and to an extent, parts of the nascent Commonwealth) via the will of the electorate, reacting against the percieved excesses of capitalism in Europe and America and Britain losing out to its European counterparts in war-rebuilding, and suffering economically, perhaps triggered by lack of an ECSC...
In all honesty, this timeline was triggered by creation of a flag, and as such is less fully thought-out and developed as some of my other timelines I'm mainly working on this one because I'm finding it fun, and it's giving me opportunity to write sci-fi, in the form of this world's future history
Either way, thanks for the compliments

Let me misquote Winston Churchill. "Capitalism is the worst form of economics, except for all those other ones that have been tried."

Eh, neither capitalism nor communism works over the long run... free-market capitalism suffers from the boom and bust, non-directional effort nature, communism simply can't account for human greed...
An ideal economy would be a controlled socialistic economy that focuses it's efforts on a few key goals at a time, knocking each one out before moving on to the next biggest problem, while providing each person with reward and compensation equivilent to the effort they expended during to achieve those societal goals. That way if you wanted to be rich you'd need to do more for your society... the main trouble is that it would take a hell of a lot of administration to run and control

What we have now, US and UK alike, is what you describe to vary degrees, or at least as much as it possibly can be done, and we've already seen that doesn't work either. At least in real capitalism you've got a fighting chance.
Part of the problem is we're talking about "ideal" as though it could actually happen.

Hey, I know it's impossible, but a man can dream
Actually I'd rather dream of a post-scarcity society - when you can have anything you want, the concept of ownership no longer means anything lol
