--overall tips:--1. please don't just smash together the colors of the parents like in the top left!
2. blending + mixing colors helps create an original color scheme!
3. markings are okay if they're used correctly!
4. carbon copies and simple fusions of the two parents are discouraged!
5. deviation from the parents' talents and interests is a good way to go!

after seeing flashlight foals that all look the exact same, i wanted to try to help people make more original and logical shipping babies. so tada!!

All Flashlight foals look the same and Iβm so glad someone called it out. They all seem to be orange/yellow, have blue manes that literally defy gravity, and have names like ____sentry.

Coat color does not equal eye color!!!!
That doesn't make sense. Neither does swapping the genetics of coat colors and mane colors. They probably got it from an ancestor (like Apple jack got her blonde mane from granny smith, rather than her mom or dad)
It makes me so irritated to see things like this because that's not how genetics work!!!!

this is pony world. genetics do work like this in my little pony.
of course in real life it's not like our parents skin color becomes the color of our hair, but obviously ponies aren't like humans.Β

Sure, it might be canon but it's not the first thing you would do while making a pony. You would normally use the hair colors for the hair and the coat as the coat etc or else everyone is confused because everyone knows genetics do not work like that obviously or else people would have green hair and pale eyes.

yes it's not the first thing you would do, but sometimes using colours from the coat for the mane for example does result in an aesthetically pleasing palette. and tbh, i haven't yet met a person who's gotten confused about using the coat color for the mane. but anyways there's no rules that you have to go by for making a next generation pony, so each to their own i guess.

It could be that one of her grandparents has green eyes you See i have brown green eyes but my Mother has brown eyes and my father blue i have the green in my eyes from my Great Grandmother so it is most likely that one of Sweetie Belles Grandparents has green eyes and she got it from them

I don't design next gens I pretty much just buy adopts, but this is really helpful! I gotta agree it looks much better as a blend instead of a fushion, and it makes more sense.:3

I agree that it's much better for fan-foals to have their own design - they shouldn't look like their parents just did a "Fusion Dance" or something.Β Even if they reuse (or semi-reuse) at least one color from at least one parent, they should still have their own design - in fact, they can even have a color of their own.
Another thing that people need to keep in mind (which you kind of cover with FlashLight foals not needing to be alicorns) is that they don't have to match what pony-types their parents are - "Baby Cakes" openly reveals that a foal can be a completely different pony type to both of their parents.

I've always noticed that my next gens looked a bit too close to their parents, and I have always been scared to change them. this has honestly given me the confidence to change then slightly! I know this may sound weird, but I thank you!

This chart makes me look back on my old MLP "Next Gen" (if anyone can even call it that) and looking back on it, it's pretty cringy.
I'm planning on revamping it and this time Twilight's child won't be a FlashLight child. (I've seen too many people make their next gen have a FlashLight character as the main, and I want to be original.)
