Here's part 3! I was going to include the fins and spikes in this one too, but I'm trying to keep each part about the same size. So those'll be in part 4, wings in part 5 and stuffing and sewing the head on in part 6. So just ignore the part at the beginning that says you need the fin and spike pieces (except for the leg spikes).
Print out all these pieces just like with the head pieces.

I would try a larger foot bottom. The legs are supposed to roll over a little bit, but you shouldn't have to stretch the foot bottom too much to make it fit.

At first thank you so much for making such a great tutorial.^^
It's really amazing!
I can't wait to start my own Toothless!
But before I start I'm haveing some questions.
It would be really kind if you would answer me.
How big should the metal snaps be and how do they look?
How big are the claws?
I can't find the part where stands how I should add the leg fins. I'm lost.

I'm glad you think it's useful! ^_^ The metal snaps can be found at Walmart in the craft section, near the velcro (that's where it was at mine...) They just look like standard snaps, like this: [link]
I don't have Toothless with me right now, but I wanna say the claws are maybe... 2 inches?
Leg fins? You mean the spikes on his front legs? That's explained in this part.

I wasn't sure what kind of metal snaps you mean.
Ok, thanks^^
Ouh... right. Oo
Sorry I didn't saw it before.
Thanks a lot for the fast answer. ^^

I really need help with the legs. I can't figure out how I'm supposed to sew them to the body because they don't line up right. I'm trying to sew the individual pieces to the body and belly pieces but I can't make it work so that it will be right when turned right side out. Please help!

What do you mean "they don't line up right"? Is it the inner legs you're having trouble with, or the outer ones too?

The "hole" in the body piece is larger than the top of the outer leg that should be sewn to it. I can't figure out how to sew the individual inner and outer leg pieces to the body and belly pieces because of that problem. I tried it once before but it doesn't look right.

How much larger is the hole? It's ok if it's a little bigger, just stretch the leg to fit it when you pin it down. And that's another thing, are you using enough pins? Just make sure the right sides of the fabric are together and pin it down to the hole.

I finally made it work lol I'll be working on him today and should have him done. All I have to do is fix his tail (put the tail fin on the wrong side ugh), stuff him and put his head on and do his wings. He's my first sewing project ever and he looks great. All thanks to your tutorials!

If I print these pattern pieces, will they be the correct size I need, or do you have the dimensions somewhere?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
nooby-banana In reply to Sami-love [2010-12-31 22:12:03 +0000 UTC]
If you print these as they are, the plush will be a bit smaller because Photobucket resized the images. To make it bigger just copy each image into Word and resize it to fit the whole page.

Iz got another question. I'm havin trouble sewing on the outter leg parts. I noticed that there are little lines at the top, does that have any significence? (Sorry to bug you again)

nooby-banana In reply to Natedog5105 [2010-12-21 17:32:02 +0000 UTC]
The little lines on the top represent where the edges of the "leg holes" should be.
What are you having trouble with when sewing the outer legs?

Natedog5105 In reply to nooby-banana [2010-12-21 18:26:49 +0000 UTC]
well, I can't figure out how to sew it on because it's just a weird shape. do i need to sew it on the wrong side and turn it right side out? i got the inner legs to work, but i can't figure out how to get the other ones on.

nooby-banana In reply to Natedog5105 [2010-12-21 20:23:59 +0000 UTC]
You sew the outer legs just like you sewed the inner legs (right sides together). It IS a weird shape since the leg and the leg hole curve in opposite directions, but just use lots of pins to get them to stay together. The leg won't want to bend the way you want, but it'll look ok after you sew it and take the pins out.

wingedbooks In reply to nooby-banana [2014-06-26 19:38:29 +0000 UTC]
Is the leg supposed to sewn following the curve of the hole then with the two pieces layered on top of each other? Wouldn't there be a lot of leftover leg portions then? Or do you sew the curved outer leg part on top of the hole so that they fit (like a puzzle)?

nooby-banana In reply to Natedog5105 [2010-12-22 05:43:34 +0000 UTC]
Noooo, when you sew the inner and outer legs together there should be no holes anywhere.

do you think i could use rice to stuff the legs? i cant get hold of plastic beady things so close to xmas also i made this differently and sewed the legs up them sewed them to them body is it going to make things harder to stuff?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
nooby-banana In reply to Ulla-Andy [2010-12-18 18:31:34 +0000 UTC]
You could use rice. The only downside is that after a while it starts to smell... ricey, I guess? I made a stuffed seal when I was little and used rice to fill it and that's what happened. It's not a bad smell, just a little unusual for a stuffed animal to smell like. xD
I don't really understand what you mean by "sewed the legs up". Did you sew all the way around so they're completely closed? If so you'll have to take out the stitching on the top so the stuffing can get inside.

Ulla-Andy In reply to nooby-banana [2010-12-18 18:51:22 +0000 UTC]
i pre-made the legs, the top seams are still open ready to be attached to the body.
hehehe, guess i will jsut stuff them really tightly with cotton wool
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
nooby-banana In reply to Ulla-Andy [2010-12-18 18:53:54 +0000 UTC]
Oh, then no, it won't be harder to stuff, but it will be a little harder to sew on to the body. Just make sure you get the seams on the legs and body matched up and you'll be fine.

I am having trouble on attaching the legs to the body now... There seems that I can only do it to where the fabric will overlap... is there something I am doing wrong? I can't get it to go with the curve and fold the stitch on the inside..
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
nooby-banana In reply to acefantasy [2010-12-08 05:55:09 +0000 UTC]
Are you pinning the area you're trying to sew? That should help you follow the curve. It's ok if the leg is a little too wide for the body, you can just trim the excess.

this is really cool, but you didnt really give proportionate measurements, I tend to make the heads bigger then the body, how big should the head be compared to how long the body should from neck to tail?

Haha, yeah I definitely wasn't kidding. xD I didn't think they'd take so long when I first did them, but they easily took a whole day just to cut them out and sew them.
But it's worth it to get some nice claws.

I started the plushie but have hit a difficulty. I sewed the outer legs to the body pieces, a bit tricky but it turned out nice. The problem is the inner legs. They don't fit the belly space cut for them. They seem too small. I can't get them to match up.
What should I do?

Hmmmm. Does the fabric you're using have a little bit of stretch to it? I think I had a problem like that too, but the fleece had just enough stretch to fit. If not, do you have enough fabric left over to cut out some larger inner leg pieces?

Catriana-Dreamwing In reply to nooby-banana [2010-07-13 14:47:26 +0000 UTC]
Ok I think it just might have enough, and if not I do have some leftover fabric. Thanks!
