This animation depicts the evolutions of the uniforms of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche. It includes the uniforms of the WHA/NHL's Quebec Nordiques.Note: This includes information based on minimal evidence and mild speculation.
1972-1973: The Quebec Nordiques join the World Hockey Association.
1973-1974: The Nordiques darken their blue and change the shoulder yolk and tail stripe patterns.
1974-1975: A Fleur-de-Lis is added to the shoulders.
1975-1976: The Nords lighten their shade of blue and change their jerseys to roughly what will be worn for the rest of their existence.
1976-1980: The pants are changed from red to a matching blue.
1981-1989: After the WHA folded and they had played one season in the NHL, the Nords make a change to their logo.
1989-1991: The pants striping changes and the fleur-de-lises get closer together.
1991-1995: The logo grows.
1995-1996: The Nordiques pack up and move to Denver, becoming the Colorado Avalanche.
1996-1999: The logo grows and rotates a little.
1999-2001: The Avs darken their shade of burgundy.
2001-2007: The Avs introduce their first alternate, featuring "Colorado" diagonally across the chest, Rangers-style.
2007-2009: The switch to the RBK Edge system forces the Avs to redesign their uniforms.
2009-Present: The Avs introduce a blue version of their original alternate.
