This animation shows the evolution of the uniforms of the NHL's Detroit Red Wings.

1926-1927: The Detroit Cougars took to the ice wearing mostly white.
1927-1928: The Cougars made some major changes to their uniforms.
1928-1929: The uniforms changed for the third straight year, with the jerseys now depicting what is supposedly a cougar.
1929-1930: The Cougars return to their second uniform set, although with the "Detroit" only as an outline.
1930-1932: The Cougars become the Falcons and, for only two seasons, a color other than red (yellow) was worn.
1932-1934: The Falcons change their name to the Red Wings. The wheel is centered, not the entire logo, making it appear off-center.
1934-1940: The Red Wings add a white jersey.
1940-1948: The Wings put a stripe on the pants.
1948-1961: The logo becomes what it is today, although still small and off-center.
1961-1973: The sleeves on the white jersey become red and numbers are added to both sweaters' sleeves.
1973-1982: The colors of the logo are inverted.
1982-1983: The logos grow, are centered, and have their colors reverted to what they were before '73; the numbers become a unique, fancy font.
1983-1984: The logos lose the outline and are again inverted; the numbers return to normal. Also, the tail stripes now match.
1984-1986: The white jersey's logo is inverted.
1986-2007: The tail stripes return to normal, and nothing changes until the RBK Edge system takes hold.
2007-2008: The RBK Edge system doesn't change anything.
2008-2009: The Wings wear old Detroit Cougars jerseys for the Winter Classic.
2009-Present: The Cougars throwback is retired.
